Crystal Dynamics developing new Tomb Raider game using Unreal Engine 5

By Sean Carey,
Developer Crystal Dynamics has announced that a new Tomb Raider game is now in development using Unreal Engine 5.

Unreal Engine 5 officially launched today for all developers, and during a special State of Unreal stream, Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider franchise general manager, Dallas Dickinson, closed the event with the Tomb Raider announcement. With Unreal Engine 5, Crystal Dynamics' "goal is to push the envelope of fidelity and to deliver the cinematic action-adventure experience that fans deserve from both Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise."

Dallas also says that Crystal Dynamics has "just started development" on the new Tomb Raider game, so it's likely we probably won't see anything on this one for a while. Unfortunately, nothing else has been said about the upcoming title.

Crystal Dynamics joins the likes of CD Projekt Red in using Unreal Engine 5 for its new game. The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 developer recently announced it was developing a new Witcher game using Epic Games' latest engine.

What do you hope to see from Crystal Dynamics and this new Tomb Raider game? Let us know down in the comments!
