Crash Bandicoot multiplayer game in the works — report

By Tom West,

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time developer, Toys for Bob, is reportedly working on a new multiplayer entry into the series after it was pulled into helping with Call of Duty: Warzone.

Activision has been quiet about its orange marsupial since Toys for Bob released Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time in 2020. It's no surprise really, since the developer was drafted to help with Call of Duty: Warzone, but Windows Central's Jez Corden believes a new game is in active development with a multiplayer focus.

As originally reported by GamingBible, Corden's recent appearance on the Xbox Chaturdays podcast saw the panel discussing a new Crash Bandicoot game. The Xbox Two's host alongside Corden, Rand al Thor 19, suggested that a new title could appear at one of the upcoming showcases, saying: "I think Toys for Bob will show up with a new Crash game.”

“New Crash? I wonder where he got that information, Corden replied. "I wasn’t supposed to leak that. I think we could see another Crash Bandicoot.

"It’s not just going to be a new Crash Bandicoot, it’s going to be a multiplayer Crash Bandicoot. It’s like a four-player brawler almost but Crash."

Of course, while Jez Corden is well known for being a reliable source, the game's rumour should be treated as such — until official word comes from Activision at least. It would certainly be cool to see a game like this make an appearance during Summer Game Fest this month, but it'll need to pull off something special if it hopes to compete with the likes of Warner Bros. Games' MultiVersus — a game with a ton of potential and the possibility to be "secretly amazing."
