EA has revealed that several multiplayer modes will be available in their upcoming snowboarding title. SSX
. These modes will involve both real-time play against others, and modes in which you don't have to play concurrently to compete with your friends.
Explore Mode allows you to drop on to a mountain range and hands you the goal of earning your personal best time. Every time you do so, a ghost run is uploaded which all of your friends can see at any time, whether you're at your console or not. You can earn money (and the envy of your friends) by beating your buddies' high scores and moving up the leaderboard.
On the other hand, SSX
will feature a Global Events Mode. This mode will feature events which can support up to 100,000 players at once. Of course, these fully customizable events can be set for much smaller groups, but it's pretty impressive to be able to compete in real time against 99,999 other players!
EA also announced that SSX
will contain a social media feature similar to the Autolog found in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
. Ridernet, as the SSX
version is dubbed, will allow you to keep connected with your friends and their performances. You can also 'like' the drops you prefer and Ridernet will in turn recommend new drops for you.
Now, on to the video and screens:
is still on target for a January 2012 release.
