Tony Hawk says Pro Skater 3+4 remake was scrapped following Blizzard merger

By Sean Carey,

Tony Hawk has revealed that a remake of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4 was scrapped due to Activision Blizzard merging developer Vicarious Visions into Blizzard.

During a live stream with former Neversoft designer Andy Gentile, Tony Hawk revealed that the plan was to remake Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4. That was until Activision Blizzard merged Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 developer Vicarious Visions into Blizzard Entertainment.

"That was the plan. Even up until the release day of [Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2], we were doing 3 and 4, and then Vicarious got kind of absorbed, and then they were looking for other developers, and then it was over."

Hawk then revealed that Activision "were trying to find someone to do three and four, but they didn't really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious, so they took other pitches from other studios, like 'what would you do with THPS title?' They didn't like anything they heard, and then that was it.

"Maybe when all the dust settles, we'll figure it out. You never know. I never would've thought we were going to do 1 and 2 20 years later."

Just a few months after the release of the excellent Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, Activision Blizzard announced in January 2021 that Vicarious Visions was to be merged into Blizzard Entertainment as a support studio, and all 200 of its employees would be "fully dedicated to existing Blizzard games and initiatives."

What do you make of this? Sad to hear that we won't be getting a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 remake? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
