EA to reveal new Need for Speed, Skate 4, and more in July — report

By Sean Carey,

EA reportedly has plans to reveal "several" games in July, including a new Need for Speed title and the much-anticipated Skate 4.

EA has forgone its usual EA Play Live event this year and is instead revealing games "when the time is right for each of them." According to a couple of reports from insider Tom Henderson, July is supposedly the month we will see reveals for a new Need for Speed game, FIFA 23, and Skate 4 (or just Skate if you prefer).

As per Henderson's report at exputer, the new Need for Speed will reportedly be revealed sometime next month and it "will be slightly different from past instalments." According to an earlier report from Jeff Grubb, this Need for Speed will be current-gen only, and it features a "photo-realistic" art style mixed with "anime elements." Henderson said the "character design is similar to the likes of The Boondocks TV series that aired from 2005 – 2014."

Henderson also claims that the New Need for Speed will include a feature called "Meetups" where players can meet up in the game world and initiate races. The map is also said to have a large train moving through it as you race.

Later Henderson touches on FIFA 23, saying that despite rumours suggesting it will be a free-to-play title, it will actually be a full-priced premium title. EA is also reportedly aiming to make FIFA 23 a more unified title with it featuring both men's and women's World Cups and cross-play.

In a separate report over at Try Hard Guides, Henderson claims that the new Skate title, which was announced back in 2020, will be revealed in July and that it's been "undergoing extensive playtesting these past few months with the title being much further along in development than people may have thought."

If true, July is shaping up to be a big month for EA! Are you looking forward to any of these games? Let us know.
