If there is one thing the Weekly Stats posts have proven to me, it is that people love Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012
. I love it myself, but then again I am attending Friday Night Magic tomorrow alongside my wife, so I may be biased. While Magic DotP 2012
greatly improved upon the foundation of Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers
, there was still room for improvement. Not content to rest on their laurels, Wizards of the Coast is already getting the first DLC pack "Ascend into Darkness" ready to go for this September.
First and foremost, players can now play Archenemy mode as the Archenemy. Yes, all those annoying schemes can be yours to control in both local and online multiplayer. You can also play the new eleven level campaign in which you are the Archenemy against an AI team of foolish Planeswalkers that dare to defy you. Four more Archenemy challenges and six new single player campaign levels will also be available.
In order to handle the new challenges, all existing decks can earn four more card unlocks. Three new decks will also be available for use, including Lilana Vess' "Grave Whispers", Ajani Goldmane's "Auramancy" and Ral Zarek's "Cloudburst". Fans of the tabletop game are no doubt going, "Lilana's back? That's cool. But who is Ral Zarek?" Ral Zarek is a new Planeswalker created exclusively for Magic DotP 2012
Finally, six cards from October's "Innistrad" expansion for the tabletop game will be included with "Ascend into Darkness". I would bet most of those will appear in Lilana Vess' deck, as the original black Planeswalker is going to be a central part of the next three expansions. Magic DotP 2012's
first expansion will be available September 14th and will include new achievements. No price has been announced, but prior DLC for Magic DotP
was 400 MSP.
