Class3 Will Use CryEngine 3

Cue the "No more zombies" comments. Undead Labs is developing a new multiplayer, downloadable game exclusively for Xbox LIVE. The game was announced months ago, but has so far received little attention. Today it was revealed that their game, Class3, which is a working title and will almost definitely be changed, will run on CryEngine 3.

A brief video showing a day/night cycle on the engine was released as well. You can see that here:

The engine is the same used to run Crysis 2 and is critically lauded for its stunning visuals.

The folks at Undead Labs are aiming to bring more than just nice graphics though. Back in February, Creative Director James Phinney said player choices will play a key role in the game. He also said they are trying to answer the question "What would you do in a zombie apocalypse?"

Players will be able to choose whether to help other survivors and bring them into their group or not. Over time, a larger group of survivors will allow for better fortification. Additionally, food is required to survive and players can acquire food by growing crops or raiding supermarkets.

With it being an arcade game, Phinney promised a shorter development cycle than a traditional online, open-world game. Details are fuzzy, but the idea is that the arcade game will serve as a building block for a future title, Class4, which will be an MMO, though it isn't clear whether it will be a zombie game too. No release window or price has been announced, but we'll be following the development of this promising title as more details are revealed.
