EA announces new single-player Iron Man game

By Tom West,

EA has partnered with Marvel Games to develop a new Iron Man game that will be a single-player third-person action-adventure title from Dead Space developer Motive Studio.

Rumours surrounding an Iron Man game from EA began to surface last month, and now, the publisher has announced a partnership with Marvel Games, confirming that a new Iron Man game is in early development.

Iron Man gets a single-player action-adventure game

Development on the Iron Man game is being led by Montreal-based Motive Studio, the team behind the upcoming Dead Space remake and Star Wars: Squadrons, with Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided producer, Olivier Proulx, at the helm. Motive Studio's development team working on this project contains industry veterans like ex-Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning lead designer Ian Frazier, ex-Immortals: Fenyx Rising production manager Maëlenn Lumineau, and ex-Star Wars: Squadrons lead producer Jean-Francois Poirier.

“It’s an honour and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Superheroes in entertainment today,” said executive producer Olivier Proulx. “We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”

EA is yet to share too many details about the game, but a tweet from Motive Studio has said that it'll be a third-person, single-player action-adventure game, while the press release says "the game will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channelling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man."

Last month, a source told TrueTrophies that this new Iron Man title will feature a "dark tone" and that "Ironheart will be included in a story about Tony Stark's alcoholism," though this is yet to be confirmed.

The recent Disney & Marvel Games Showcase revealed an upcoming action-adventure game featuring Black Panther and Captain America from Amy Hennig's Skydance New Media studio.
