Control 2 officially in development for Xbox Series X|S

By Sean Carey,

Remedy Entertainment has announced that Control 2 is officially in development for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC and that the sequel will also be co-developed and co-published by 505 Games.

A Control sequel has always seemingly been on the cards, and while Remedy has suggested that it's been in the works in the past, the developer finally confirmed today that Control 2, formerly known as Codename Heron, is in development for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.

Control sequel currently in early concept stage

"I’m now proud to confirm that the bigger-budget Control game, also known as Codename Heron, is Control 2, a full-blown sequel to our award-winning game Control," Remedy CEO Tera Cirtala announced on the developer's investor site.

Remedy also announced it has signed a co-development and co-publishing deal with 505 Games for the sequel and that Control 2 has an initial development budget of €50 million. The game, which is currently in the concept stage, will be built on Remedy's proprietary Northlight engine.

In a separate blog post, Mikael Kasurinen, game director of the Control franchise, said, "With Control, we leaped into the unknown. We wanted to create something new. Something different and unexpected. A world like no other. Thank you, the audience, for making Control such a success for us.

"With Control 2, we’ll take another leap into the unknown. It’ll be an unexpected journey. It’ll take a while, but to put it mildly, this is the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on. It’s still early days, but it will be worth the wait."

Remedy has numerous other projects on the go. We know that the developer is currently working on a Control multiplayer spin-off, Alan Wake II, and remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2.
