Penny Arcade Adventures Uncanceled

It's been well over a year since word broke that the third installment of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness was canceled. Penny Arcade's Jerry Holkins confided at the time that DeathSpank commanded a lot of the attention of then-developer Hothead Games, and there wasn't a way to work on the two projects simultaneously which maintaining the level of quality both demanded. Once it became clear Episode 3 was not to be, Gabe and Tycho set out to wrap up the narrative of the story and that seemed to be that.

For those of you who have been holding your breath in hopes that a sequel would defy the odds and be announced, you can exhale now, as a development deal has been struck for Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 3.

The new entry in the franchise will be developed by Zeboyd Games, who have gained notoriety for their work on indie games of the old-school RPG variety, including Breath of Death VII and Cthulu Saves the World, both of which may be downloaded from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

According to Penny Arcade's Robert Khoo, they "originally had the idea of an NES-style RPG last year, but... couldn't find the right people to do it". Zeboyd's previous body of work lends itself pretty obviously to the task at hand.

There isn't much confirmed about the game at the moment, other than the fact that it will be in development for "as many consoles as possible". More information about the game will be announced at PAX East in March 2012.
