Nier producer seemingly teasing announcement for Fan Fest this weekend

By Luke Albigés,

Nier: Automata Fan Fest takes place this weekend, and ahead of the event, producer Yosuke Saito has shared what some fans believe to be a tease of a new announcement coming in the next few days.

Nier: Automata is now well over five years old, and fans are eager for a new chapter in the series. It's possible that the series producer is hinting at just that in the tweet below, but we'll just have to wait to find out.

Will we get some fresh Nier news from the Nier Automata Fan Fest this weekend?

It seems fairly innocuous at first glance, with Yosuke Saito's short message translated by another Twitter user as “Ah, there won’t be any new announcements. Right.” But we know better by now than to take Yoko Taro and his crew at face value with things like this, and looking closer at the image of the truck, you can see something has been blacked out to the right of the other two mainline game logos (the text below each translates to 'now on sale') — roughly the same size as the Automata logo to the left of it, in fact. Another tweet from Saito shows a close-up, with text that translates to read, "There is some black paper attached to it."

While some believe any rumoured Nier news from the event this weekend will likely relate to upcoming anime adaptation Nier: Automata Ver1.1a, there would be no need to obscure that in this way, since it already has a logo and we know it's coming in January. Mobile title Nier Reincarnation also doesn't get a mention on the fancy truck — it's just the two major games, and that's what has got brains racing about this potentially being related to a brand new game in the popular series and sequel to one of the best Xbox RPGs.

Of course, it's all speculation at this point, but the truth will out soon enough, and every story surrounding Nier seems to be a fun ride. Just earlier this year, a new 'secret' was reportedly discovered in Automata that had the community rallying to try and replicate what was shown for days, later learning that the whole thing was an elaborate hoax to show off some cool breakthroughs in modding tech for the game. Nier: Automata Fan Fest kicks off this weekend, with panels, concerts, script readings, and more — tickets for the streamed event are an eye-watering 5,000 yen (around $36/£30), which seems a little steep, as much as we would absolutely love to see some of the stuff that is planned for the event.
