CDPR shares Geralt's history ahead of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt upgrade

By Heidi Nicholas,

The Xbox Series X|S upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is fast approaching, and CD Projekt Red has "levelled up" its website for The Witcher — players ready to start the game again or for the first time can catch up again on Geralt's backstory.

For all his brooding, Geralt seems to have been the unwilling belle of the Continental ball — if there was a major event going on, there was a good chance of finding a surly Geralt in the midst of it. That's according to the "levelled up" site for The Witcher games, which aims to catch us up on Geralt's backstory ahead of the Xbox Series X|S upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The Xbox Series X|S upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt arrives on December 14th

Starting in 1270 and covering the events of the first The Witcher game, CDPR explains how Geralt of Rivia, who was believed to be dead, reappeared at Kaer Morhen without his memories and escaping the Wild Hunt with Triss Merigold's help, before the castle was then attacked by the Salamandra organisation. Then, covering the events of the first Witcher game, it moves on to 1271 and The Witcher 2, picking up with Geralt having been accused of the assassination of King Foltest.

Moving on, we head to May 1272 and the start of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: "Armies ravaged the land and monsters stalked the highways between towns both day and night. Daily life, already fraught with enough challenges for most, was thrust into even greater difficulties. Hope and freedom was a rare commodity, with the flames of war a constant presence on the horizon of even the smallest villages. It was amidst this bleak, unsettling, and merciless time when Geralt of Rivia, who had regained all his lost memories, set out on a journey to find his long-lost love, Yennefer."
