Free Sonic Frontiers updates set to add new characters, challenges, modes, and more

By Tom West,

Sega has revealed its roadmap for Sonic Frontiers, which shows that at least three free updates are planned for the game in 2023, adding new characters, a photo mode, and more.

Sonic Frontiers' roadmap for 2023 looks pretty packed with new additions. Sega has plans for three free updates throughout the year to keep Sonic's latest adventure on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One thriving, including the addition of new playable characters.

Sega reveals free additional content coming to Sonic Frontiers

Prior to the updates next year, a free Holiday Cheer Suit will be added to the game on December 21st for all players. The first update can probably be expected sometime in early 2023, offering us a photo mode, new challenge modes, and a jukebox. The second update we can fairly safely assume will drop sometime around June, as it includes a celebration for Sonic's birthday, which takes place on June 23rd. This update will also include new open zone challenges and new adorable Kokos. Update three, most likely planned for the later portion of 2023, will offer new story content and additional playable characters. By the looks of the roadmap above, it seem like our adventure will be joined by Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose in playable form.

Sonic Frontiers is available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One and has just received an update that adds a 60fps performance mode on Xbox Series S. If you've finished exploring the islands and are currently looking for a new adventure, why not take a look at what we think are some of the best Xbox open-world games?
