The Division 3 not on the cards as Ubisoft focuses on free-to-play spin-off — report

By Tom West,

A recent report suggests that Ubisoft isn't planning on developing The Division 3, despite the popularity of its first two games, so we'll need to make do with the spin-off game, The Division: Heartland.

Although Ubisoft has enjoyed plenty of success with its third-person shooter franchise since The Division launched in 2016, a recent report claims that the company isn't currently looking to develop The Division 3. We'll still have the free-to-play spin-off, The Division: Heartland to look forward to still, though.

Ubisoft isn't planning to make The Division 3 at the moment

As reported by Insider Gaming, although Ubisoft has seen a huge amount of success since launching The Division in 2016 and subsequently The Division 2 in 2019, the company isn't planning on a third mainline entry at the moment. Those plans can of course change in the future, but as it stands now, we'll be remaining as Agents within the confines of New York City and Washington D.C for the foreseeable future. Ubisoft is still continuing to roll out updates and content for The Division 2, though, which is currently on its tenth season and awaiting a major update.

That's not to say there isn't anything coming from the franchise soon, however, as Red Storm Entertainment is still hard at work on The Division: Heartland. It'll be joining some of the best free Xbox games later this year and features both PvPvE and PvE game modes for up to 45 players. We're still waiting on a solid release date, but it's expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

What do you make of this news? Disappointed that a third entry is on the cards at the moment? Let us know down below, Agents!
