System Shock remake gets PC delay, Xbox launch coming "in due course"

By Tom West,

Nightdive Studios has revealed that System Shock will launch on PC in May, following another delay for the remake, but players on Xbox will need to wait even longer as a release date is still a mystery.

Initially expected to launch this month on PC, Nightdive Studios' System Shock remake has received another delay, pushing the launch to May 30th. The Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One release continues to be a mystery, with the developer only saying it'll come "in due course."

System Shock remake's Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One launch remains a mystery

In a new post on the System Shock Steam page, Nightdive Studios has confirmed that the upcoming remake's launch window on PC has moved from March into May, while the console port will come "in due course." The developer notes that while it had hoped to have the game launch in March, it "turned out to be just beyond our reach." If you're desperate to play the game sooner rather than later, it'll be available on Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.

System Shock is a remake of the original 1994 first-person shooter, featuring HD visuals, a modern control scheme, and a fresh interface. Using stealth and futuristic weapons, you'll need to take down the game's antagonist Shodan to save Earth from certain doom, in what Nightdive says is "a delightfully evil experience."

If you're looking for modern takes on classic games you can play right now, some of the best games on Game Pass include the likes of Age of Empires II, GoldenEye 007, and more.
