By Tom West,

Sega has announced that the developer behind Total War: Warhammer and Alien: Isolation, Creative Assembly, has opened its third studio, which is working on an unannounced project.

Creative Assembly North is the third development studio for the Total War developer. Based in Newcastle, UK under the helm of industry veteran Giselle Stewart, the new studio is currently working on an unannounced project, which is currently in a prototype phase.

Creative Assembly looking to recruit another 100 developers

With games like Halo Wars 2 and Total War: Warhammer III already sitting amongst some of the best games on Game Pass and PC Game Pass, and a history of releasing fantastic titles like the Total War series and Alien: Isolation, Creative Assembly has a proven track record of developing quality experiences. The company currently has more than 800 staff under its banner across its studios in West Sussex, UK, and Sofia, Bulgaria, and with the addition of Creative Assembly North, it's expecting to add another 100 developers in the "coming years." The studio is being run by industry veteran Giselle Stewart, who was Ubisoft Reflections' studio head for almost 20 years before becoming the publisher's director of UK corporate affairs.

“Starting a new development studio from scratch with the full support and insights of one of the UK’s oldest and largest studios is incredibly exciting. We are embracing flexibility, fast iteration, and creation, while fostering cross-location collaboration," Stewart said. "We are bringing new job opportunities to the Northeast, building a studio which amplifies the fantastic culture and values of Creative Assembly. We will also extend the reach of the studio’s award-winning outreach programme, the Legacy Project, to support excellence in industry education in the region.”

Creative Assembly North is working on an unannounced project currently in its prototyping phase and is said to be "taking a progressive, iterative approach to development and moving quickly on technical solutions and creative potential."

The next title coming from Creative Assembly is Hyenas, a sci-fi first-person-shooter that features Zero-G combat as you battle it out to steal pop culture-inspired loot from billionaires and rival teams on Mars. It's planned to launch on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One later this year.
