EA to wage war against toxic players harassing Battlefield devs

By Sean Carey,

EA has warned players it will take action against those who are harassing developers working on its first-person shooter series, Battlefield.

Last year, shortly after Battlefield 2042 launched, developers working on the game faced a wave of toxicity and harassment from players, so much so that the game's official subreddit had to be shut down. Now it seems that Battlefield developers are being harassed once again, so much so it's prompted publisher EA to release a statement.

EA tells players to stop harassing Battlefield developers

Battlefield developer harassment EA

"Recently, we have witnessed increased harassment towards members of our development team," reads a tweet from the official Battlefield Twitter account.

"Across all of our Battlefield Studios, we are open to constructive feedback and criticism about our games, but to maintain a healthy and open dialogue with our community, we will protect our teams and people from toxicity and harassment.

"We believe this has no place inside our game or within the Battlefield community. We want to remind our players that, through our EA User Agreement and Battlefield Community Guidelines, we will take appropriate action to uphold these values. As a community, we play the objective, together."

The statement is signed by multiple studios working on Battlefield 2042: DICE, Ripple Effect, Ridgeline Games, and EA.

When Battlefield 2042 launched last year, it was fair to say that the first-person shooter was in a bad way. The game was filled with bugs and missing features many would consider essential in a Battlefield game and was generally an overall poor experience. Since then, EA has improved Battlefield 2042 significantly with new features and content. While some may still find the game disappointing, attacking developers is never a good look and doesn't help anyone. Hopefully, with the potential threat of bans, EA can stamp out some of this toxicity, and constructive criticism can prevail.
