Sega considers matching Xbox and Sony with price hike on games

By Sean Carey,

It looks like Sega might follow in the footsteps of other big publishers and start charging $70 for some of its premium games.

During the company's latest financial call, Sega revealed that it was considering bumping up the price of some of its future games to $70.

Sega might start charging $70 for games soon

Sega raise prices of games $70

"In the global marketplace, AAA game titles for console have been sold at $59.99 for many years, but titles sold at $69.99 have appeared in the last year," Sega said in a transcript of the call (thanks, VGC). "We would like to review the prices of titles that we believe are commensurate with price increases while also keeping an eye on market conditions."

If Sega does decide to start selling its premium titles at $70, it will join the likes of Take-Two, Microsoft, Sony, Square Enix, and Ubisoft, all of which have announced price increases for their top games over the past couple of years. Microsoft revealed it would start charging $70 for its major first-party releases at the end of last year, beginning with Redfall, Starfield, and Forza Motorsport.
