In news which has many gamers incredibly excited, Syndicate is to be dusted down, re-imagined and remade for current gen consoles. Players will drop into the shoes of Miles Kilo, the latest agent from Eurocorp, as they begin a new adventure littered with "corruption and revenge".
The project has been nothing short of 'top-secret' for a number of years, but the time was right for EA and Starbreeze Studios to come clean on the matter. Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze Studios, fleshed out the details for gamers anxious for more on the matter:
We are excited to finally reveal what we’ve been working on the past couple years. It's been a great experience working with EA, and an amazing opportunity for us to use our expertise in the first person shooter and action genres to bring back, and reignite, the signature action/espionage gameplay of Syndicate.
Taking place in the year 2069, this is a world without a government, without a true system of control. Instead syndicates face off against one another in order to exert dominance of their local market place. Three mega corporations are the forefront of the war for total control, Eurocorp, Cayman Global and Aspari. With no-one to question their actions or place any hurdles in their way, the fight is brutal and unrelenting.
EA and Starbreeze Studios promise a mix of "fast-paced, futuristic, action shooter", with a setting and story combined designed to "immerse players in a unique digital world".
Jeff Gamon, an Executive Producer for EA, addressed the link between the original Syndicate and the planned revival:
Our goal with Syndicate is to provide a challenging action shooter for today’s gamers as well as fans of the original. I’m sure they will enjoy and recognize the legacy that made it such a classic. Fans of the franchise will recognize many weapons and environments in the game, but in a whole new way. The game also provides a separate and deep 4-player co-op mode featuring missions from the original cult classic, which adds another layer of depth to the overall experience.
After bringing you the good news, I'm afraid the down side of this is that you'll have to wait until 'early 2012' for the title to hit the shelves of your local store.
