TA Gaming Stats - Oct 3rd to Oct 9th 2011

By Dog of Thunder, 7 years ago
This report is for the period October 3rd to October 9th 2011.

Finally we are now firmly in the 10th month of the year. We are also now knee-deep into the fall release season and our latest stats reflect the increase in quality titles. There is a remarkable degree of staying power involving the Games on Demand (GoD) re-releases that continue to make an impact on the retail charts.

Let's dive in and see which game has overtaken Gears of War 3.

Games Started
35,106 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 54,579 games between them (1,404 different games).

Oops. Did I say game? I meant games. RAGE came out with all guns blazing while FIFA 12 just continues to build momentum for the franchise. Dark Souls continues to amaze me as that is an awful high number of masochists here in the TA community. How low is the Dark Souls TA ratio going to go? I say it remains in the 4.0 range when everything is said and done.

Crysis (over 2,000 total gamers) and Resident Evil 4 HD (Xbox 360) (at 4,907: it's real close to 5,000 gamers) have sold many, many digital copies. Given the unique way that these titles are available, not quite XBLA and not quite retail, yet how much they are selling, says great things for the future of the format.

Top Retail Games Started

Put Torchlight on sale and see what happens? NBA JAM: On Fire Edition beat out Orcs Must Die! in a head to head competition. Personally, I'm just happy to no longer have to write news stories about Orcs Must Die!

Outland gets to enjoy a discount bump for another week as Trials HD is quickly running out of possible buyers.

Top Arcade Games Started

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I (WP) dashes up the chart thanks to a discount. It is still short of besting the deal offered by Minesweeper (WP), which is again, a free title.

Puzzle Quest 2 (WP) surprises me since I wasn't even aware it existed. Has it charted before and I just forgot?

Top Windows Phone 7 Games Started

Games Completed
4,950 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 6,673 games between them (917 different games).

First off, under 5,000 gamers completed a game this past week. That's well below the normal number, so I can only assume that people are playing longer titles, such as Gears of War 3 or Dark Souls.

I'm excited to see Dead Island (Xbox 360) up top. A new IP from a smaller developer has taken the gaming community by storm. Quite so many people finishing off Crysis and Resident Evil 4 HD also surprises me. A lot of gamers must have remembered how they beat those games many years ago in order to finish them off that fast.

X-Men: Destiny, on the other hand, has a 1.3 TA ratio already, meaning it's a very easy completion.

How many more gamers will finish off The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion before Skyrim arrives? I say about 200.

Top Retail Games Completed

I'd love to have something to say about this chart, but nothing here is a surprise. All of these titles have been frequent fliers with the exception of The Maw, which was on sale and even available free through special promotions.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Just like the arcade games chart, all of these WP7 titles have been seen in recent weeks.

Top Windows Phone 7 Games Completed

Achievements Won
65,121 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 722,815 achievements online between them (36,507 different achievements).

This week's retail achievements won chart demonstrates how it will not always be the most started title filling out this chart. Less people STARTED Gears of War 3 but more people PLAYED it this week. Expect RAGE to rebound next week.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Only one Orcs Must Die! achievement made it onto the chart despite being the second most started arcade title? Unlike Gears of War 3, this was done during Orcs Must Die!'s debut week, so there was no built in audience already. Torchlight has just been all over this week's stats.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Two achievements tied? What were the odds of that? No, really, there's some real stat people out there, someone can tell me the odds.

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

Expect Shooter to be overtaken by Batman: Arkham City. Yes, one game will help overtake an entire genre. That is the power of Batman.
