Battlefield 3 Vehicles Trailer [UPDATED]

By Rebecca Smith, 5 years ago
The previous 'Pillars of Battlefield 3' trailer demonstrated the destructive possibilities throughout the campaign and multiplayer sections of the game. One of the other pillars of the Battlefield series is the vehicular combat, so it comes as no surprise that the latest trailer focuses on the wide variety of vehicles that will be at the players' disposal, again in both the single player campaign and the multiplayer maps.

Speaking of those multiplayer maps, theBattlefield blog gives players a sneak peek into four of the nine multiplayer maps that will be available from the outset. Part two gives players a sneak peek into the remaining five.

Operation Métro

Operation Metro

SUPPORTED GAME MODES: ALL
BRIEF: INFANTRY FOCUSED COMBAT IN SUBWAY

FICTION: HEAVY FIGHTING IS EXPECTED AS U.S. FORCES PUSH TO SECURE THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT IN CENTRAL PARIS. RUSSIAN ANTI-AIR EMPLACEMENTS IN CHARDONNAY PARK ARE LIKELY TO BE THE FIRST TARGET.
For those of you who took part in the open beta, this map needs no introduction. Although the map is available in all multiplayer modes, it is in Rush where the true variety of battlegrounds becomes apparent. Players start in a park environment before heading into a bombed-out section of the subway tunnels. Finally, players emerge into the dense city landscape outside the Paris stock exchange. Players will need to constantly adapt their class and loadout to fit the situation.

Operation Firestorm

Operation Firestorm

SUPPORTED GAME MODES: ALL
BRIEF: ALL-OUT DESERT WARFARE

FICTION: U.S. AND RUSSIA LAUNCH LARGE-SCALE ASSAULTS TO CONTROL IRAN’S BIGGEST SOURCE OF OIL. SECURING THIS AREA WILL OFFER FULL CONTROL OF THE SECTOR AND ITS KEY FACILITIES.
You know those vehicles that were shown in the trailer above? Well, this is one of those maps where they will be the most useful, as the map is both large and extremely vehicle-friendly. The playable area in this map is three times larger than that of 'Atacama Desert', one of the largest maps in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The desert landscape adds contrast to the burning oilfields in one direction and the clear blue sky in the other. The elevated construction sites make ideal hiding places for snipers, who can spot vehicles and take them down using mortars or RPGs.

Tehran Highway

Tehran Highway

SUPPORTED GAME MODES: ALL
BRIEF: INFANTRY FIGHTING IN TIGHT CITY STREETS

FICTION: A FIGHT FOR CONTROL OF ACCESS ROUTES NEAR TEHRAN. U.S. FORCES MAKE A PUSH FROM THE HILLS UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS WHILE RUSSIANS HAVE SET UP DEFENSIVE POSITIONS ALONG THE MAIN ENTRANCE POINTS.
Despite the infantry focus, vehicles are not excluded from this map. Players begin on the hills above the night-time city skyline with rockets lighting up the sky. Here the map is "semi-open" with plenty of room for vehicular warfare. However, once players work their way down into the city itself, the much tighter environment means that focus then shifts to infantry battles.

Damavand Peak

Damavand Peak

SUPPORTED GAME MODES: ALL
BRIEF: FIGHTING IN WINTER MOUNTAINS

FICTION: A RUGGED MOUNTAIN AREA PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN DECIDING WHETHER RUSSIAN OR U.S. TROOPS ARE SUCCESSFUL IN COMBAT OPERATIONS IN THE SECTOR, AS THE AREA IS HOME TO KEY RADAR INSTALLATIONS.
How does the idea of base jumping grab you? When in Rush and Squad Rush modes, the Attackers begin on a high mountain ridge. Their target? A mining facility 500 metres below them, and they have to get there somehow. The large tunnel section that has been dug into the mountain side at the bottom of the map gives players a spectacular view when looking at the mountain ridge. Damavand Peak has the most extreme height difference ever found in a Battlefield map. As the game progresses through the map, vehicles play a bigger part in the conflict.

Grand Bazaar

Grand Bazaar

SUPPORTED GAME MODES: ALL
BRIEF: TIGHT URBAN COMBAT

FICTION: THE BATTLE FOR CENTRAL TEHRAN HAS REACHED ITS SECOND WEEK, AND WHAT WAS EXPECTED TO BE OVER WITHIN DAYS NOW CONTINUES AS RUSSIAN AND U.S. FORCES CLASH FOR CONTROL OVER THIS ANCIENT CITY.
Players enter the city after two weeks of fighting, so the tight and narrow streets have already been the location for destruction on a smaller scale. Close quarter combat is very much the gameplan here, with shotguns being at a distinct advantage. Players on both sides of the map have similar pathways, sideways, and an equal chance to get to higher ground to gain a better view of the action.

Caspian Border

Caspian Border

SUPPORTED GAME MODES: ALL
BRIEF: VEHICLE WARFARE IN LARGE VALLEY

FICTION: A RECON RUSSIAN FORCE HAS SET UP CAMP ON THE TURKMENISTAN SIDE OF THE IRANIAN BORDER AND PROCEEDED TO TAKE OVER THE HEAVILY BUILT UP BORDER CHECKPOINT.
This map may also be familiar to you because of our previous coverage back in August. The lush green environments of Caspian Border, with border control splitting the map in half, were designed to contrast with the desert and urban environments of the other eight maps. With large distances between bases, this is the ultimate map for vehicle warfare, and "pretty much" every type of vehicle is available - the exception being boats.

Seine Crossing

Seine Crossing

SUPPORTED GAME MODES: ALL
BRIEF: VEHICLE/INFANTRY COMBAT IN DOWNTOWN PARIS

FICTION: THE AMERICAN INVASION OF RUSSIAN OCCUPIED PARIS IS IN FULL MOTION. THE UPSCALE AREA IN THE 7TH DISTRICT OF PARIS SERVES AS THE BATTLEGROUND.
Similarly to Caspian Border, Seine Crossing is a map split in half by a prominent feature. In this case, the river Seine splits the city of Paris into two. Larger roads allow vehicles to pass, whereas tight alleyways are the haunt of the infantry. Many buildings offer elevated positions, but there's always the risk of the enemy destroying your cover. Different building sizes means that a range of tactics will need to be implemented.

Noshahr Canals

Noshahr Canals

SUPPORTED GAME MODES: ALL
BRIEF: MIXED COMBAT IN INDUSTRIAL SETTING

FICTION: U.S. MARINES LAUNCH A STRIKE ON A MAJOR HARBOR BY THE NOSHAHR CANALS ON THE IRANIAN COAST. THE STRATEGICALLY IMPORTANT PORT ALLOWS FOR DEEP WATER VESSELS TO OFFLOAD ESSENTIAL MATERIALS.
This industrial environment offers tight infantry combat, land vehicles and boats. The Rush attackers start on a carrier ship, and are forced to head for land on a series of amphibious vehicles, boats or helicopters. Although the main theme is industry, all bases have different styles, such as train yards, dry docks or airfields.

Kharg Island

Kharg Island

SUPPORTED GAME MODES: ALL
BRIEF: AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT

FICTION: KHARG ISLAND IS IRAN’S BIGGEST OIL EXPORT TERMINAL. IF THE U.S. CAN STAKE CONTROL OVER THIS ISLAND, IT WILL DENY THE RUSSIANS CRITICAL ACCESS TO IRANIAN OIL RESERVES.
Alongside Noshahr Canals, this is the second map that offers boat gameplay, with vehicles having more of an emphasis than infantry combat. For instance, there are large distances to cross between flags in Conquest mode. In Rush, the attacking team begin on a coastline with their target being a well-defended beach. As the game progresses though, the map opens up into a wider battlefield.
