TA Gaming Stats - Oct 31st to Nov 6th 2011

By Perpalicious, 7 years ago
This report is for the period October 31st to November 6th, 2011.

Welcome, welcome! Dog of Thunder is currently on leave (just for this week), so I'll be taking over for this week's stats.

Let's get the ball rolling.

Games Started
35,868 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 54,169 games between them (1,466 different games).

Just like last week, Battlefield 3 "blows" by the competition. Unfortunately, the game takes a 3k drop from last week.

GoldenEye 007: Reloaded and Sonic Generations make their debut, but both received a dismal reception. Sonic came in third but with a meagre 1,190 starts while 007: Reloaded only was started 720 times! This goes to show you that a big name doesn't always mean big things.

Dance Central 2 sees itself drop out of the rankings while RAGE has been on the list for five straight weeks, Gears of War 3 for eight weeks, and, believe it or not, Dead Island (Xbox 360) has stayed in the top ten for nine weeks.

As expected, Kinect games have very little staying power, with Dance Central 2, Harmonix's hit sequel, dropping off the list after only one week.

Last week, Dog mentioned that arcade games have a short life span, and we see that resounding statement this week. Guardian Heroes, Kinect Fun Labs: Air Band, Dead Rising 2: Case West, Costume Quest, and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero get the axe. This is a massacre!

Daytona USA and Pinball FX2 (Xbox 360) avoided this unfortunate trend and remain in the first and second position respectively.

Bejeweled 3 hangs on for dear life, going from fourth to ninth.

We also have two comebacks this week; The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile and LIMBO (Xbox 360) come out of nowhere and break the top ten.

Lastly, we see that Kinect Fun Labs games are hogging the charts, with Kinect Fun Labs: Kinect Me, Kinect Fun Labs: Air Band, and Kinect Fun Labs: Mutation Station all securing positions.

Top Arcade Games Started

Kinectimals (WP) made its debut last week, but couldn't snag the top spot. As the famous American Football saying goes, "any given Sunday, anything can happen." Kinectimals makes a comeback and takes the top spot.

Beards & Beaks (WP) sees a drop on the chart after a nice revival from last week's discount.

Top Windows Phone 7 Games Started

Games Completed
5,087 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 6,950 games between them (956 different games).

Incredibly, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, a game that's five years old, breaks the top ten in games completed. The explanation? Probably gamers who are completing the game in anticipation of the uber, awesome The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also makes the list, showing the anticipation for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

NCIS is a perfect example that easy achievements mean high completion, as it has a TA score of 1072.

Dead Island (Xbox 360) and RAGE continue to stay on the list, showing their power to drive gamers to completion.

Top Retail Games Completed

A World of Keflings and Daytona USA take the top two spots again while Kinect Fun Labs, in typical fashion, hogs three of the ten spots on the chart.

What game is on the list again? Dead Rising 2: Case Zero. Checking Dog's profile, he still hasn't finished it. Give him some motivation, folks.

Top Arcade Games Completed

The WP7 completed chart looks awfully similar to the WP7 games started chart. Sudoku, Beards & Beaks (WP), Orbital (WP), and Monopoly (WP) secure the top five completed spots, just like they secured the five spots on games started.

Top Windows Phone 7 Games Completed

Achievements Won
69,907 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 744,867 achievements online between them (38,331 different achievements).

Last week, Battlefield 3 dominated the chart, taking every single spot available. Gears of War 3, the other number three, was all, "nuh-uh! I'm taking some spots." GOW3 swoops in this week and takes the top three spot while leaving Battlefield with the bottom seven. Ricky Bobby, superstar extraordinaire, said, "if you ain't first, you're last." Sorry, Battlefield.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Kinect Fun Labs, in a constant trend, continues to occupy various spots on the charts. I guess it's really that fun. Or is it just that easy?

http://www.trueachievements.com/Pinball-FX2-xbox-360.htm's Cryptid Investigator remains in first place while Limbo takes second.

Daytona USA dominated the chart last week but fell short this week, real short, as none of its achievements made the list.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Last week, we saw some variety, with Sudoku, Beards & Beaks, and Orbital taking up most of the spots.

This week, Kinectimals took the first seven spots with Monopoly taking the last three spots. Where's the variety in that?

Top Windows Phone 7 Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

Is anyone surprised by these results? Shooter takes the top spot again, with over 11 million TrueAchievements while action-adventure drops by almost three million.

Next week's stats will include Skyrim and MW3, so we'll see if the RPG can overtake action-adventure and if the shooter can create a bigger distance between first and second.
