TA Gaming Stats - Nov 21st to Nov 27th

By Dog of Thunder, 7 years ago
Sorry for being quite so late this week, but with the combination of finals and only 24 hours in the day, TA Stats had to play second fiddle for this week.

I suppose I could lie and say I was playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which judging by the stats this week, was played by A LOT of gamers.

On with the numbers!

This report is for the period November 21st to November 27th 2011.

Games Started
39,497 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 63,166 games between them (1,510 different games).

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary scores the top spot, but it was not a blow out by any means as Saints Row: The Third is just under 900 gamers away. The Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim is just over 1k gamers away from the top spot. Don't worry, we'll have a dicussion about the interesting stat results of these three games later.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations is putting up steady numbers since release and, if past games in that series are any indication, it will wind up over 50k gamers when all is said and done. That 50k milestone? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 passed it this week.

Battlefield 3 is projected to be the least popular of the big name shooter titles released this Fall. After a month of release, the percentage of new gamers picking it up is dropping fast making this possibly the last week it will chart.

Batman: Arkham City (Xbox 360) has also dropped, which again is expected for titles that have been out for over a month. Considering Batman: Arkham City is a single-player title, it should remain popular for just a bit longer than the multiplayer focused Battlefield 3.

Oh, the last three titles on this chart are under-performing with roughly 2k gamers a piece. All three may be niche genres, but each is a top-flight title from their respective genre so I was expecting at least 4-6k from all of them.

Top Retail Games Started

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Special Editions (EU) is the only new title to chart; it was released only in Europe and it is the only title that was not on sale. All of the other nine titles were either on sale or are free (Kinect Fun Labs: Kinect Me) normally. Considering the low numbers again, we're still in a heavy retail period that has most gamers ignoring the Arcade.

What will these numbers look like in December when retail releases dry up?

WP7 charts will return next week as the renaming issue has been resolved, but not in time for this week's stats.

Games Completed
5,604 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 7,555 games between them (937 different games).

NCIS AGAIN appears on this chart but fails to show on any other chart. That has to be good for some sort of prize right? Perhaps a Stan Lee official no-prize?

Halo: Reach AND Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary both show on this chart, while both Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Revelations charted as well.

Out of ten games, only the duo of NCIS and Dead Island are not sequels.

Top Retail Games Completed

Harms Way? Again? Really? In fact, every game on this chart is an easy completion as even Torchlight has seen a drastic drop in its TA ratio the past few months. With such low completion numbers, it is safe to say that only the real achievement whores finished off Arcade titles this week.

Achievements Won
73,663 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 831,040 achievements online between them (42,388 different achievements).

Alright, here is where things get interesting and the gaming habits of the TA Community are brought to light. You will note that the third most popular game this week has swept the chart. Why is that you ask? It's simple really and just requires a close read of the actual achievement numbers.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary has three possible achievements that can be earned to start the game. While it isn't that easy to do, the 6,000 gamers whom started the latest Master Chief joint managed to split themselves up among a number of achievements.

Well, that and if you look at the number one achievement, it is for reaching level 25 in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This means that a lot of established players earned that achievement this week, which was enough to give Bethesda's latest the edge this week. A LOT of you decided to start either Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary or Saints Row: The Third and then venture back into hostile dragon territory.

The top achievement this week actually sports a higher TA ratio than the bottom achievement. That is simply unheard of since we have started keeping these stats.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Super Meat Boy is one of those games that I suck at but I enjoy playing, much like Pinball FX2 (Xbox 360), which I am happy to see on the chart again thanks to the recent discount on tables. Other then that, it is all Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Special Edition on this chart, which leaves the second most popular arcade title, Ms. Splosion Man, out in the cold.

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

The gap between Shooter and Action-Adventure was incredibly close this week, thanks to Saints Row: The Third and Assassin's Creed: Revelations carrying the Action-Adventure banner. It will be quite some time before we see another change up top.

Next week, we will have some representation from a very sparse retail release week. We'll also have the monthly stats from November, in which, for the first time ever, we have the first, second and third installments of a series all chart at the same time.
