Happy Holidays from TrueAchievements

By Michelle Balsan, 7 years ago
Hello TAers,

All of us here at TrueAchievements would just like to stop all the hustle and bustle behind the scenes for a few minutes and wish all of you a very happy Holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year. Undoubtedly, many of you have noticed that a whole host of changes have come to the site over the last twelve months, so we're going to give each manager the podium for just a paragraph or two to let you know what's up in their neck of TA and what you can expect from us all in the future!

Like many of you, we'll be spending some time with our friends, families, and loved ones over the next week or so, so let this serve as a heads up that things will be a little slower than usual as we take a little down time to charge our batteries before jumping head long into the new year.

Anyways, on to the managers!

Community and Events Team

Hello fellow TA’ers

Wow!!! What a year it has been. For me, I think the most notable addition on the site this past year has been the creation of a new team; The Community & Events Team. While the idea of this team had been tossed around for a while, after the success of Viral Month and work load involved to make it a success, along with other community related events on the site, like Bean Diving Day, TA Challenge Belts, and contests, it became obvious that a team was needed to support these events and help grow the community. The generosity, friendship, support, and desire to help others that the TA community demonstrates (and I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this first hand during these events) never ceases to amaze and touch me. I have never been as proud to call myself a TA’er, and honored to be a member of staff, than I have this past year.

I’m very excited about what is already in the works for 2012, as well as the potential of things that might come to fruition. Without giving anything away and being labeled as a *spoiler*, you all can expect to see more events aimed at bringing the community together in all sorts of fun ways. I’m hoping that the very-soon-and-upcoming site event is as exciting and successful as I think it will be…maybe even worth an award. wink I want to give a HUGE thanks to everyone in the community who has helped make TA an amazing, fun, accepting and rousing place to chillax. Onward to the year 2012, and may it bring us as many happy gaming memories as 2011 has…and a few less xbox.com redesigns. toast
Content Team
Content team is now split up into three units. Will072 has very recently been appointed to the role of Game Information Assistant Manager. Since he's so new to the position (but will undoubtedly work incredibly hard in his new role!), TrueAchievement summed up the Content Team's year and some Game Info details:

It's been a crazy year for the content team. Unfortunately we lost Van Uden from the Content Manager position due to RL commitments, and rather try to replace him, we've split the CT into different groups - Walkthroughs, Reported Content and Game and Achievement Information. These teams each have an assistant manager and I'm overseeing the whole group.

As for Game Information, a huge amount of work was done to get the 2-tier Genre system up and running, and I want to personally thank the guys in content responsible for this as I know how much time and effort they put in to get it working properly. We also implemented Pre-Release game information to assist the newshounds and make it easier for the community to find all articles relating to games that haven't yet launched.

The team have also set up achievement type flags on a staggering 15,121 achievements for games released in 2011!!!

Back on January 13th of 2011 we had 50 published walkthroughs - as of writing this post, we currently have 268! That means we've published about 0.64 walkthroughs per day in this last year! A big shout-out goes to our content walkthrough team who quality check every single walkthrough published on this site!

We have big plans for next year, hoping to not only increase the number published, but also to make walkthroughs even better with new features and improve upon our current ones. If you've somehow missed this fantastic site feature, I invite you to check out our list by going through the "site pages" tab - "walkthroughs". As always, we're looking for new writers, so feel free to post in our Volunteer to write a walkthrough thread if you're interested after learning a bit more in our About: Walkthroughs thread.
Thank you to all that have contributed in the past - let's strive to make the TA community the most helpful achievement community out there!
Reported Content Assistant Manager
Lozzy Denton is heading up this important unit, which does amazing work behind the scenes to remove bad solutions and address other concerns. This work continues now and will continue through the new year!

Investigations Team
As you all understand, the Investigations Team manager has to stay hush-hush, but here's what they had to say:
Happy non-demoninational winter holidays everyone! We put up a Festivus pole up in the Investigations Lounge to commemorate the season.

Over the past year the Investigations Team has doled out over 2000 lumps of coal to naughty boys and girls.

Thanks to all the elves on the site who have helped and continue to help us make our list and check it twice!

It's been another busy year for the mods and I would like to thank them for the fantastic work they do; I would also like to thank the community, who help make this the best site on the net.

Looking forward to 2012 and the improvements that will make our job and your TA experience better.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year from the TA moderators toast

We knew going into the year that the news section of the site was going to get bigger and better, but I don't think either PunkyLiar or I quite imagined how big it would become! In the last year, we've started adding regular features such as a stats round-up, weekly Arcade and DLC round-ups, Sales posts, and weekly polls. We've also begun to make important and exciting inroads with developers and publishers, allowing us to net developer interviews and wonderful prizes to give away to you guys, thanks to the work of the team and recently-appointed Social Manager, DavieMarshall.

In the next year, we hope to bring you the same depth of coverage we've been able to bring you this year, along with more interviews and reviews. Hopefully some changes will come in the way news is displayed, as well. It's been an amazing and challenging year, especially after having to follow zigs00 after his departure, but I hope you all think that the job is being done well and that at least a few of you are beginning to turn to TrueAchievements for your news needs in addition to satisfying your achievement-related OCD. ;)

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year Everyone! toast

From the Social Manager's point of view, 2011 has been a year of fantastic growth and expansion for TrueAchievements. You may be surprised to see my name under this section as the change of my focus here happened very quietly. However, I feel the creation of these new roles and teams to deal with increased demands upon our volunteers time and coordinate new ideas are evidence to the level of work and commitment we're putting in behind the scenes to make TA the ultimate resource for Xbox 360 content.

Already this year you will have no doubt observed us testing new ideas, features and exploring new avenues as we open up to the plethora of companies and people in the games industry who have been waiting for a chance to work alongside us.

Looking forward to 2012 what are working on? We have some very exciting projects lined up that we can't wait to reveal when the time is right. I hate to be so vague and 'mysterious' but as I'm sure you can understand the world of PR is littered with pitfalls and last minute reveals to keep our ideas our own.

As the staff wind down for the holidays, it's only for a brief recharge, and the second the hangover wears off in the New Year we'll be back firing on all cylinders for what will be the biggest and most exciting year for TrueAchievements.

Have a great holiday and we'll see you all again very soon!
And finally, a few words from TrueAchievement

A note on site milestones
TrueAchievement said:
2011 was another record-breaking year for TA. We saw another 50,000 gamers sign up to the site, we smashed through 1 million forum posts, and added 119,321,894 gamer achievements (at time of writing).
A note on Site Development
TrueAchievement said:
New feature-wise, it was a relatively slow year as I was without a development PC for over half of it. However, we still added fully trackable site leaderboards on just about every stat we calculate, including genres and sub genres. We launched the mobile version of the site, re-wrote the scanners no less than 3 times due to xbox redesigns, implemented the weekly and monthly TA Stats reports, and added comments to blogs. I also upgraded all of the server hardware to give us another year of good performance growth without hopefully having to upgrade any more.

Coming in 2012 - LOADS of goodies! A lot more blogging functionality, more detailed Gamer Stats pages, MORE GRAPHS!, implementation of the Site Leaderboard stats into User Leaderboards and Gamer Goals, forum and PM enhancements, TA Rivals, more social network integration, more mobile functionality and possibly an app too!
Again, from all of us at TrueAchievements, have a Happy Holiday and a wonderful New Year. We wouldn't be anywhere without the strength of our community and we're thrilled and grateful that you've chosen to stick with us for another trip around the sun.

Here's to an amazing 2012!
