TA Gaming Stats - Dec 12th to Dec 18th 2011

As Dog explained last week, he's away over the Holiday period. That means that you're left with me. Sorry about that. I'll keep this quick as I'm fairly sure that you have bigger priorities today.

This report is for the period 12 Dec '11 to 18 Dec '11.

Games Started
20,824 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 31,491 games between them (1,442 different games).

Rayman Origins makes it into the top ten this week in place of last week's tenth placed game, Need for Speed: The Run. Otherwise, the game lineup is identical to last week. Gears of War 3 and RAGE both drop a place, but the most significant thing to note is that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim stays on top of the chart for a third consecutive week.

The disappointing Arcade numbers from last week have not been repeated. Newcomer Sonic CD produced over five times the number of new gamers than that seen from last week's leader, Beyond Good & Evil HD. The latter falls all the way down to seventh place this week. The second newcomer, former Playstation exclusive Joe Danger: Special Edition, also seems to be a hit with the community.

Radiant Silvergun, Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury and Hard Corps: Uprising all appear on this week's chart thanks to the recent Deal of the Week. Guwange, the fourth game in the promotion, failed to make a significant enough impact to chart this week.

Surprise! Everybody likes free games. The newest free game to the Windows Phone stable, Breeze (WP), wipes the floor with every other game this week. The second of the three new releases, Doodle God (WP), also makes a decent showing. It looks like gamers don't like the third game though; Battlewagon (WP) has managed to gather 43 gamers at the time of writing, but that wasn't anywhere near significant enough.

People like sales just as much as they like free games. As a result, Tentacles (WP) reappears on the chart for this week too.

Games Completed
6,010 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 8,127 games between them (957 different games).

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is now approaching a 6% completion rate, but despite this low number, the game takes the top spot in this chart for a third consecutive week. Assassin's Creed: Revelations benefitted from the release of the "Ancestors Pack" DLC, which contributed to the game taking the runners up spot. Duke Nukem Forever and Battlefield 3 also reappear due to new DLC.

I can't write up the stats article for Dog without taking the time to mention NCIS. The game's completion rate now sits at 86.52%, leaving 124 gamers who are yet to complete it. That's enough gamers to be able to keep the game in the chart for another two weeks.

Top Retail Games Completed

Despite over 1,300 gamers starting Sonic CD, only 56 managed to complete it. This does not suggest that it is an easy game. A couple of collectible style achievements are possibly making the difference between those that simply finish the game and those that complete it. The rest of the games in this chart are easy completions and shouldn't be of any surprise to regular readers of this article.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Shuffle Party (WP) continues to chart in a high position, but the top spot gets awarded to the most recent free game, Breeze (WP). Doodle Bug (WP) takes the number three spot.

Only 13 more gamers completed Collapse! (WP) this week. Despite this, there's now 107 more gamers who need to complete the game for it to obtain a 100% completion rate, an increase of five from last week. Dog really wants to see a 100% completed game, and you don't want to make him angry now, do you?

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
63,015 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 605,965 achievements online between them (38,214 different achievements).

With Seriously 3.0 stopping http://www.trueachievements.com/Gears-of-War-3-xbox-360.htm from entering the completions chart, the impact of the new "RAAM's Shadow" DLC for an incredibly popular game had to be felt somewhere. You've probably guessed where this is leading...

You were correct; we have a landslide victory. Only Jaws in Battlefield 3, the easiest achievement in the "Back to Karkand" DLC, could break the dominance of Gears of War 3.

Top Retail Achievements Won

This chart usually provides a good variety of games, but not so this week. Sonic CD and Joe Danger: Special Edition dominate this week's chart. The only exception to this is the Mooncopter achievement in http://www.trueachievements.com/Pinball-FX2-xbox-360.htm. This is the easiest achievement of the new "Marvel: Vengeance & Virtue" DLC by far.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Oh look! New games are affecting the achievements won chart for Windows Phone. Who would have ever thought of that?

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

The aforementioned new DLC from Battlefield 3 and Gears of War 3 has helped to push the Shooter genre to a decisive victory this week. Not much else has changed since last week to be honest.

Due to the fact that most people didn't get the joke from last week, we've decided to relegate NCIS back to being a regular game. This doesn't make much difference though, as the Adventure genre drops out of the chart completely this week. Puzzle takes its place instead.

  • Shooter6,447,995
  • Action-Adventure4,391,456
  • Role-Playing2,997,929
  • Action1,257,662

  • Racing889,096
  • Platformer709,718
  • Music and Rhythm339,274
  • Puzzle309,232
  • Party254,907

Dog should be returning next week to resume normal duties. This means that I can leave him to deal with the tumult caused by people starting Holiday gifts. Excellent!
