TA Gaming Stats - Dec 19th to Dec 25th

By Dog of Thunder, 6 years ago
Thanks to PunkyLiar for filling in last week while I was off trying to enjoy the holidays, despite the added degree of difficulty thanks to my in-laws. It's great to be back here with all of you and attempt to say things about the same damn games for the sixth week in a row. No really, we are on week six of seeing nearly the exact same stats.

This report is for the period December 19th to December 25th.

Games Started
27,605 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 42,975 games between them (1,466 different games).

See what I mean? With the exception of Kinect Adventures booting RAGE off the island, we have no major changes from last week. Even the order of the remaining nine titles is identical!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim continues to dominate and will, at this point, surpass Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in overall gamers within the next few months. The 73,000 gamers of Gears of War 3 is now the hurdle to clear.

I'm just going to move on before I say something stupid out of boredom.

Top Retail Games Started

Bastion (Xbox 360) proved to be so popular that it would actually be number two in our retail chart. Bastion is my personal XBLA title of 2011 and I hope most of you agree with me. Otherwise we can no longer be friends.

Rock of Ages, bolstered by a recent sale, is now close to breaking the 2,000 gamer barrier. For a game that was mostly ignored on release this is a great accomplishment. Renegade Ops broke the 2k gamer barrier this week itself, so congrats to the 2011 game voted "Most Likely to Give You Desert Strike Flashbacks" by the TA Stats Committee (Of One).

Sonic CD leads the pack of recent releases while Joe Danger: Special Edition and Trine 2 fail to make much of an impact. Given the 1200 MSP price point of those latter two titles, I have to wonder how many people are waiting for a sale.

A brief congrats to Peggle for making it on the chart. This is only impressive as, somehow, people have yet to play this game. What is wrong with you? Go and play Peggle and understand what it feels like to become an addict.

Top Arcade Games Started

Breeze (WP) is a free game. You did not need me to tell you this since it is again on top of the Windows Phone chart with an https://www.trueachievements.com/Angry-Birds-xbox-360.htm level of numbers. Popular opinion seems to be that it will remain on top for weeks to come.

Due to the dearth of releases lately and the increased availability of Windows Phones, you will note that the WP games are putting up XBLA numbers these days. The number of WP titles with awesome names, such as Doodle God (WP) and MiniSquadron (WP), is also rising.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
6,143 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 8,425 games between them (973 different games).

I can not muster any enthusiasm over this list. Not only am I sick and tired of seeing these games, but now I can not even be amused by the continued antics of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. I could fake some enthusiasm I suppose, but this chart just puts me right to sle- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sleep

Top Retail Games Completed

Harms Way, my old foe, we meet again. I see you brought along your wingman - After Burner Climax - a fellow disgustingly-easy completion. There's nothing that you nor those Kinect Fun Labs titles can do that will diminish my delight at seeing Bastion top the chart.

Recent releases Sonic CD and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Special Editions (EU) are proving to be a bit more difficult to complete.

Beyond Good & Evil HD remains on my "To Be Played" list. Every time I see it on one of these charts I feel guilty for not having started it yet.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Enigmo (WP) is the name of an actual game? Again, that is an awesome name for a game.

As with most of the charts this week, we again see very little that is new and different this week. I suppose the total lack of Collapse! (WP) is notable, if only because I really, really want to see that game reach 100% completion.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
68,632 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 678,684 achievements online between them (39,329 different achievements).

Gears of War 3 DLC achievements and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim achievements fill the majority of the chart this week. THAT'S AMAZING!

Oh right, it's not.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Gamers this week played a lot of Bastion. I know how far in it takes to reach those achievements, so it is clear that people are starting it up and sticking with it. The rest are the easiest achievements from their respective titles.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

God stopped a Breeze (WP) sweep. A Doodle God that is, which is again a WP title that those on my friend feed have been raving about.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

What's not appearing on this chart? Due to the reaction from my Leroy Jethro Gibbs related stunt two weeks ago, literacy. Role-Playing is dropping as the rush of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim achievements is beginning to drop off. I wonder if Music and Rhythm's showing can be attributed to the recent sale on Guitar Hero titles at Gamestop.
