TA Gaming Stats - December 2011

By Dog of Thunder, 6 years ago
Welcome to the end of our half year of stats! We have come a long way together since May 16th. We have added more stats, more games and delivered each weekend without fail thanks to my fellow Newshounds for the past six months.

Onward with the final month of 2011!

This report is for the period December 1st to December 31st 2011.

Games Started
84,929 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 230,062 games between them (1,694 different games).

First off, a total of 1,694 DIFFERENT games is the highest number we have seen thus far regarding variety of games started. While the overall numbers on this chart are not as high as previous months, I believe it is because of the gaming variety this month.

The chart itself is a showcase of all the major releases from the past three months, including, of course, the Kinect bundle with a free The Gunstringer token. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 continue their blood feud atop the chart. Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Saints Row: The Third are continuing their tussle just one spot below on the chart. These two pairings have been close for the past two months and, so far, I don't think January will break these stalemates.

Battlefield 3 will break 50k total gamers next month, as it currently sits at 44,000 total gamers. On the other hand, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will need to go on sale at this point to reach 50k total gamers. Only 25,000 have relived Master Chief's first adventure in high definition.

At 38,000 gamers, Batman: Arkham City (Xbox 360) is now just over halfway from reaching the 70,000 gamers who started https://www.trueachievements.com/Batman-Arkham-Asylum-x....htm.

Original IPs also fared well this month with RAGE leading the way and Dead Island (Xbox 360) close behind. Overall, Dead Island is beating out id's latest FPS by 6k gamers, and the shockingly popular zombie survival title has now busted down the 30k gamer barrier.

He's Sonic and he's really fast! music

Ahem. Sonic is so fast that the latest re-release, Sonic CD, is at the top of the chart. Out of all of the recent XBLA releases, Sonic CD sold the most copies by a staggering amount, with only Joe Danger: Special Edition coming within 1,000 copies. Trine 2 failed to ignite the marketplace despite some stunning visuals, while Apples to Apples languishes despite having just a $10 price point.

Iron Brigade, the game formerly known as Trenched, makes a welcome re-appearance. The Summer of Arcade titles reappear too, all of whom benefited from sales during this month (except, of course, Toy Soldiers: Cold War, which failed to make the chart).

Renegade Ops and Rock of Ages managed to break 2k gamers, or come very, very close to breaking that mark. I am not sure if that means the games are mild successes or not, so we will see where they stand next month without the benefit of sales.

Top Arcade Games Started

Breeze (WP) did not run away with the WP chart as originally expected. Shuffle Party (WP) came within 63 gamers of taking the top spot. Doodle God (WP) had a very strong month, especially for a WP title, by busting down 1,000 gamers like it was nothing.

The WP old guard make up the majority of the chart from then on, with Fruit Ninja (WP) leading the way followed by the pair of free and easy GS: Sudoku (WP) and Minesweeper (WP). They are easy right?

I feel a need to call out Cro-Mag Rally (WP), which was cussed out no less than three times on my friend feed this week.

Games Completed
19,310 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 40,612 games between them (1,403 different games).

Ladies, gentlemen and even XI AlphaMale IX, I would like to take this moment to recognize the history made by Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise. Every single game in the franchise has made it onto either this chart, or the WP completion chart.

Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and finally Assassin's Creed: Revelations were ALL completed by enough members of the community to accomplish a very rare, amazing feat.

Beyond that, you can tell gamers were looking to pile on the GS before the end of the year as Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Burning Earth makes a rare appearance. Who are those 600 gamers that started the easiest retail title of all time but did not complete it? That's almost as bad as not finishing Harms Way.

Top Retail Games Completed

Oh for the love of Jabootu, Harm's Way is back.

I enjoy seeing Bastion on top, even if it just barely beat Beyond Good & Evil HD. Those are two quality titles while, with few exceptions, the rest of the chart is comprised of easy GS titles or those with DLC. Only Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, Torchlight and the surprisingly difficult for most Doritos Crash Course strike me as difficult/time consuming completions.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles HD (WP) was not forgotten since every franchise needs a black sheep. With this chart it is the overall completion numbers that are interesting considering the steep drop-off past Shuffle Party (WP).

Collapse! (WP) is only 117 gamers away from achieving the mythical 100% completion rate. If you have any friends that started this title but have not completed it, please yell at them for me.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
118,607 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 4,041,537 achievements online between them (50,718 different achievements).

"Finger of Doom" has nothing on the original "Fingerpoke of Doom" used by Hollywood Hulk Hogan:

While the recent Gears of War 3 "Shadow of RAAM" DLC may have claimed the title of most popular achievement, it is Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim which stole the show. Clearly, while the weekly stats of late did not reflect recent gamers picking up the title, these stats show just how popular Bethesda's latest marriage-killing RPG truly is among the community.

Battlefield 3 sneaks onto the bottom of the chart thanks to the "Back to Karkand" DLC. Overall, you can see just how tight this chart is with the bottom half separated by only a few hundred gamers.

Top Retail Achievements Won

No surprises here as every achievement matches up with one of the top Arcade titles of the month. The one exception comes courtesy of the Moon Knight table from Pinball FX2 (Xbox 360), which is clearly the easiest achievement to earn from the "Vengeance and Virtue" DLC.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

A Doodle God was caught hosting a shuffle party in a stiff breeze.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

Honestly I was expecting to see higher numbers for this month. Was it the obligatory "family time" or finals that kept most of you from really piling on the TA this month?

The order of genres and overall gains are nothing spectacular, in fact, they are a bit boring. Here's to the GTASC making things interesting next month.

  • Shooter34,909,431
  • Action-Adventure31,182,202
