TA Gaming Stats - Dec 26th 2011 to Jan 1st 2012

By Dog of Thunder, 6 years ago
Welcome to the year 2012!

It is a bit of a let-down that only one day of the new year was counted for these stats, but hey, it is still a brand new year of gaming! My resolution this year has nothing to do with gaming, I don't even have any TA goals set up yet. Going for a Master's degree tends to put a damper on gaming time, which is probably why the pick up and play XBLA games are quickly becoming my favorites.

Let's check out another week of stats that looks remarkably like last week's numbers!

This report is for the period Dec 26th 2011 to January 1st 2012.

Games Started
49,821 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 85,248 games between them (1,533 different games).

It is now official, over 1/3rd of the entire TA community has started The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In fact, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is only ahead of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim by 8k gamers.

Kinect Adventures serves as a marker for how many community members either received a Kinect as a gift or picked one up on sale. Kinect Sports: Season Two is, I have been told, a rather good Kinect title and so seeing it being included this week is not a shock to me.

Top Retail Games Started

Speaking of fun Kinect titles, look at those numbers for ! A lot of people used that free token included in the Kinect bundle didn't they? I suppose a recent sale also helped the cause of fruit murdering. Recent deals also helped Bastion (Xbox 360), Plants vs. Zombies, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet and Renegade Ops.

Sonic proved to be really, really popular this week with Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I and Sonic Adventure also benefiting from discounts. Sonic CD is simply the best selling XBLA new release of the past two months. On a related note, very, very few people showed any interest in All Zombies Must Die!.

Top Arcade Games Started

The WP numbers are all down from the past few weeks as the "newness" wears off of Breeze (WP). Frequent running buddy Shuffle Party (WP) also put up good numbers this week, though they are again, drastically down from what we have seen in the past. With the smaller install base of Windows Phones we see these titles hit "critical mass" well before any equivalent retail or XBLA.

Games Completed
6,711 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,569 games between them (1,043 different games).

NCIS, the Mark Harmon Tribute Game, is now at a staggering 87.38% completion rate. With NEXT WEEK'S stats (in all caps for that one guy whom should not browse the internet on Vicodin smile) reflecting Week 1 of the GTASC, I expect NCIS to AGAIN show up on the chart.

Despite how often Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been appearing on this chart over the past few weeks, only 3,687 gamers have actually completed it. We could be seeing completions for this title all the way through well, the Apocalypse.

Even if 2012 does bring about the Apocalypse, somehow we will see Assassin's Creed II being completed the following week. That game is like a cockroach.

Top Retail Games Completed

This chart makes me sick. I hope you all enjoy whoring out the GS like this! Let's move on!

Top Arcade Games Completed

I like tracking the rotation of these WP titles. Remember back when we saw things like Women's Murder Club (WP) and Monopoly (WP) on a weekly basis? Now we've been seeing this new generation of WP titles for a good solid two months. I of course, know nothing about these games as I am insanely jealous of those with a Windows Phone.

What the heck is Ghostscape (WP) about anyways?

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
88,783 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 1,281,602 achievements online between them (41,516 different achievements).

You have no idea how long I have waited for this moment:

When did Dr. Robotnik become recognized as Dr. Eggman in non-Japanese sonic titles? Did that happen when my back was turned?

I continue to be amazed at how easy it is for one or two retail titles to sweep their achievement chart while the XBLA titles are always fighting it out. I suppose that is the difference between having 12 achievements versus 50.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

On the other hand, it is very easy for just one or two games to sweep this chart as well. I've lost count of how many times that has happened.

Why is Action-Adventure on top? Well it might have to do with the Assassin's Creed franchise, which was on a path of destruction during the month of December. Given the tastes of the TA community, I also expect to see Role-playing at or near the top from now until well after the release of Mass Effect 3.

Next week we get to see if the GTASC had any impact on the stats!
