It's been over four years since Gearbox officially announced Aliens: Colonial Marines
, and in that time, the developers have remained relatively quiet other than to occasionally remind the gaming public that they do still intend on releasing the game...eventually. Unfortunately, Aliens: CM
has been pushed out of its Spring 2012 window and into the equally ambiguous but even later Fall 2012 window.
The same studio responsible for rescuing Duke Nukem Forever
from development hell has to now salvage another property while facing claims from some gamers who have long ago deemed the game vaporware. As is typical with most delays in the gaming industry, the team attributed the prolonged release date to the game needing more polish. A Gearbox employee had this to say:
Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention and those don't necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line. While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don't want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date.
So there you have it. Until then maybe you can revisit the film series or practice your reaction to an alien violently protruding from your chest.
