Microsoft Announces More Windows Phone Games

By Rebecca Smith, 4 years ago
We may know exactly which game is coming out on the Windows Phone next Wednesday due to the Must Have Games promotion, but we're completely clueless as to any titles that are likely to follow after that day. However, WPCentral managed to get their hands on a list of titles that Microsoft has confirmed to be releasing on the phone. Without wishing to spoil the anticipation, we've only covered one of these titles before, and two of the six are Xbox LIVE Arcade games that will be making the leap to the mobile platform. Here's the list:

Carcassonne

The German medieval strategy board game named after a French town is still extremely popular and the game found its way onto XBLA in 2007. In the aim to get the most points, up to five players take turns placing tiles to enable them to build roads, cities and cloisters. Despite being released onto the Android and Blackberry platforms, the game hadn't been announced for the Windows Phone until now. Exozet Games will be exercising their porting talents again to bring the title to WP gamers, and this version will include "The Rivers II" expansion pack. Online multiplayer has also been confirmed.

geoDefense Swarm

Following on the heels of geoDefense (WP), geoDefense Swarm sees the tower defence game switch from linear paths to a hex-grid format. Critical Thought Games are again holding the development reins, so the sequel retains the game's signature appearance.

Gerbil Physics

This game was released onto the XBL Indie Games marketplace in 2009 and is another indie game to make the leap onto the Windows Phone platform. Players must destroy buildings that are formed from gerbils using a variety of tools, such as bombs, ropes and disintegrators. Pencel Games' Windows Phone version promises to have three times the amount of levels as the XBLIG version; as the latter had 24 levels, we'll guess that the former now has 72 levels. There's new animations and music too.

Pinball FX 2

Zen Studios' much-liked XBLA game is the second to find its way onto the Windows Phone. In fact, this game will link up with the XBLA version to allow players to transfer high scores and Wizard score between platforms. Few details are known about this game, although the screenshot demonstrates that both portrait and landscape configurations will be supported. As you may have noticed, the Ms Splosion Man table is also confirmed to be appearing.

Shoot 1UP

First announced back at Gamescom 2011, Mommy's Best Games' XBLIG turned WP game was last supposed to be releasing in January 2012. Having missed that date, Microsoft has confirmed that the 2D vertical-scrolling shmup is still coming.

Wordament

This game originated as a free ad-supported Windows Phone Indie Game, but the game will now be re-released complete with Xbox LIVE support and achievements. Players compete to find as many words as possible from a 4x4 square grid of letters. Multiplayer gameplay and leaderboards will be supported.

The majority of the games do not have a confirmed price or release date. However, Gerbil Physics will be released on March 14th and will cost $2.99.
