The game's development has been placed in the capable hands of the team at WayForward, who can count the likes of BloodRayne: Betrayal among their previous credits. The developer appears set to give the franchise, which made its debut around 25 years ago, a modern once-over courtesy of graphical improvements and new features, whilst simultaneously harking back to its humble beginnings.

WayForward's Director, Sean Velasco, outlined how the developer intends to approach Double Dragon: Neon:

Double Dragon: Neon is far from a standard retro remake... It’s WayForward’s love letter to the decade that spawned the franchise - the music, the style, and culture of the 80’s pulse through the nucleus of Double Dragon: Neon. But don’t think this is a simple graphical facelift; with our innovative ‘mix tape’ level up system and power-up high-fives, we pushed it to the limit!
In similar fashion to its predecessor, Double Dragon: Neon will see gamers assume the role of either Billy Lee or Jimmy, twin brothers who both happen to be experts in martial arts. Those fighting skills (along with an array of weapons) will help them to come to the aid of Marian. The Black Dragon Clan, led by Skullmageddon, stand in their way and the plot thickens further as Marian is a love interest for both brothers. Gamers will also have the option to team up in "Bro-Op" in an attempt to overcome those difficulties more easily.

Keep your eyes peeled and your ears pinned back for more details about Double Dragon: Neon. TA members who are lucky enough to be attending PAX East this weekend, should note that a playable demo of the upcoming title will be available at the Reverb Booth (#808).
