TA Gaming Stats - March 26th to April 1st, 2012

By Mark Delaney, 6 years ago
This past week's statistics are probably no more reflective of current gaming culture than any other week, but it's a slow Easter Sunday for many folks, so I wanted to point out a few observations with these stats.

This report is for the period March 26th to April 1st, 2012.

Games Started
17,850 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 28,240 games between them (1,492 different games).

In the retail games started category, take a look at the top games. How many of them are new IPs? How many are sequels? Not a single one is even the first sequel in a franchise. This is a trend we've seen during this whole console generation. Publishers have grown scared of new IPs, even when they have mountains of money to fall back on, and gamers end up getting sequel after sequel, even though those sequels are often very fun games.

Top Retail Games Started

This next category also highlights another trend in gaming, and it ties in well with the opinion piece on the front page. The top game started was one that is largely considered a boring, bad game, but it was on sale and, more importantly, has a very easy 200 Gamerscore.

Top Arcade Games Started

With the new WP7 releases, things are a bit more reasonable. The most started game, by a mile (or kilometer for you Euros), is a new release, and after that we see a lot of repeats from recent weeks.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
6,447 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,555 games between them (1,068 different games).

Top Retail Games Completed

Like I said, Daytona is a really easy completion, as you can see. Out of the nearly 700 who started the game, nearly 600 finished it. I'm guessing the other 100 had to go to the bathroom or something.

Top Arcade Games Completed

I guess this week's best selling game isn't that easy, because it doesn't even crack the top ten. Instead we see a lot of repeats from the past two weeks combined.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
49,479 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 612,535 achievements online between them (41,872 different achievements).

This list is interesting. Since the game is too difficult and time-consuming for most to complete, but the new DLC came out, Gears of War 3 completely makes up this list. I'd guess more people started the Forces of Nature DLC than Mass Effect 3 and Resident Evil combined.

Top Retail Achievements Won

More examples of Daytona being really easy can be seen here. Do you think Xbox knew what they were doing when they put that one on sale?

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Interesting here, nearly the complete list of achievements for iStunt 2 makes up this list, yet it didn't make the completions list, as you remember.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

Thanks to Resident Evil: ORC and Gears of War 3, Shooter remains on top this week with another 5 million plus TA score. This number is my favorite each week because it points to the tremendous growth of the site.
