Namco Bandai have revealed that Dragon Ball Z for Kinect
is set to arrive this October bringing the "classic action and intensity" of the Dragon Ball
universe to the world of Kinect. The title will feature over 50 playable characters that fans of the series will be familiar with, plus one brand new character. Beyond taking charge of characters directly through Kinect, players will have the chance to scan in QR codes to unlock power-ups and characters for use in game.
Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, is confident fans will revel in the power of Dragon Ball Z for Kinect
being placed literally in their hands:
There’s going to be no better feeling in the world for fans of the Dragon Ball Z series than standing in front of their screens and unleashing their own fists and raging blasts upon enemies with this game. The Kinect sensor has truly enabled the development team to finally realize the dreams of millions of fans of both the classic games and the timeless original anime. This game will truly represent the next generation of interactive entertainment in the Dragon Ball Z universe.
The title will feature two key gameplay modes: Story Mode and Score Attack. Story Mode will tell the story of Dragon Ball Z
through the eyes of a first person perspective for the first time ever in the series. During the action, scenes will be portrayed through anime-style direction as computer generated scenes and interactive controls combine to offer an all new experience. Players will have over a hundred different moves at their disposal as they enter the fight, so this isn't aiming to be a watered down experience for fans of the series.
Namco Bandai also noted that some scenes will "require the player to move in the same way as their character and perform the same attack or movement from a particular famous scene". It may be time to start stretching those hamstrings!
We can't pin down an exact release date at the moment, but the title will be available in North America and Europe in October 2012.
