TA Gaming Stats - April 9th to April 15th, 2012

By Mark Delaney, 6 years ago
Another slow week of releases meant a lot of repetition in this week's stats. Still, I've really grown to enjoy reading these each week, and sharing them with the community.

This report is for the period April 9th to April 15th, 2012.

Games Started
17,632 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 28,590 games between them (1,551 different games).

Just as we should have expected, the controller-free journey into the Star Wars galaxy was short lived on our weekly stats. Sure, it's still there, but after just a one week reign atop the list it has fallen to third, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's entirely absent next week. Actually, that gives me a good idea. From now on, I'll try to make a bold prediction about the stats for the following week. Let's see how bad I will be. This week's bold prediction: Kinect Star Wars misses the top ten list of games started.

On the arcade front, a much-delayed, highly anticipated puzzle-platformer (Fez) ran away with the numbers. We don't normally see the XBLA numbers this divided, though I'd be willing to bet Trials Evolution does the same thing next weekend. I Am Alive also emerged from its own dust to reclaim a spot after last week when I said the House Party titles would be absent until sales. It looks like this whole 'bold prediction thing' might not be a great idea.

Top Arcade Games Started

The deity of all classroom drawings, workplace daydreams and touch screen art, Doodle God, took its first ever top spot during a quiet week for WP7 games. As always, Angry Birds makes the list. I wonder if and when Angry Birds Space will arrive. Have you guys tried it yet? I don't love the series like many others, but the sequel provides a lot of new gameplay mechanics.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
6,489 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,636 games between them (1,114 different games).

Whether people start Mass Effect 3 or not, plenty are still finishing off the achievement list. ProStreet also made another appearance, higher on the list than before. However, that speaks more to the slow week than it does the game's actual popularity.

Top Retail Games Completed

Surprise! More Fun Labs appear in bunches. What else is new? When I saw Fez on here, I figured it must be pretty easy. Then I remembered how many people started it. Only 75 of the 1700+ completed the game. Maybe it isn't so easy after all.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Despite constant complaints of boring gameplay, people keep playing Boot Camp. I know not everyone on this site is crazy for achievements (myself included), but clearly enough of us are to suffer through this.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
47,395 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 579,363 achievements online between them (43,260 different achievements).

Except for one Gears 3 cameo, Bioware's finale has again dominated this list. In the time since I took over doing stats shortly after the game released, it seems this list hardly ever changes. I wonder when it will. Maybe next week for The Witcher 2? If not then, certainly with Max Payne 3...right?

The Escher-esque platforming of Fez was clearly a big draw for many, as shown here. I actually found myself contemplating a purchase and I don't even like most platformers. However, I'll wait for a sale because I have a terrible habit of forgetting about my XBLA games for long periods at a time.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Doodle God dominated, as any God would really. However, it didn't really run away with the WP7 games started category. Does this indicate the game offers some easy gamerscore? You tell me.

Despite little representation from the games started category, Shooter claimed the top TA score this week. I don't think that'll last, however. Next week's combo of a strong ME3 and a new The Witcher 2 should take it back for RPGs.
