TA Gaming Stats - April 16th to April 22nd, 2012

By Mark Delaney, 6 years ago
Fans of RPGs have a lot to cheer about on the retail side of things this week, as CD Projekt RED's big time PC adventure, The Witcher 2, migrated to Xbox last week and received great reviews and clearly lots of sales. The Xbox port was praised for retaining nearly the same level of graphical prowess and the Enhanced Edition updates were received well too. There's also some really interesting numbers for the new Trials, if you scroll down.

This report is for the period April 16th to April 22nd, 2012.

Games Started
22,801 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 33,930 games between them (1,542 different games).

Between the two versions of The Witcher 2 -- PAL and NTSC -- nearly 3,000 people started the game this week here on TA. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it. For its storytelling alone, I intend on playing it soon, even though I don't much care for the fantasy genre. Mass Effect 3 somehow remains in the three slot and, to my surprise Kinect Star Wars still makes the list after last week I predicted it would fall out of the top ten. As you can see, though, there weren't many games standing between its sixth spot and the eleventh spot.

Top Retail Games Started

So this number is pretty awesome. How often do you see a XBLA game beat out the top retail release for the same week? Not often, for sure. I thought Fez's numbers were impressive last week and I guess they are, given that it nearly repeated the total this week, but 7,000+ people started Trials Evolution. That's absurd. The game actually set a XBLA record for most downloads in the first 24 hours with over 100,000. I would bet next week, Trials still beats out the top retail game, which is expected to be Prototype 2.

Top Arcade Games Started

The new WP7 version of a Kinect game took the lead this week, which seems appropriate. People are always looking for retail quality games on their mobile devices, though they're few and far between. I have Madden 12 and Dead Space on my Kindle Fire, but they're really just silly time-wasters that pale in comparison to their retail versions, which I expected.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
6,260 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 8,847 games between them (1,096 different games).

A trio of RPGs take the top three slots this week, ahead of a few fall 2011 titles that continue to make the list. I'm confused about Borderlands' appearance on here. Did I miss something, or was it just a slow week?

Top Retail Games Completed

I'm surprised to see Trials Evolution make the list, especially so highly. I guess when 7,000 people started it, there's bound to be a few highly-skilled gamers out there. By all accounts this one is easier than its predecessor, but I know I'll never finish it.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Each week, WP7 owners flock to the easy gamerscore of Boot Camp. I guess as long as it's cheap the purchase isn't so bad, but then again, the game isn't any cheaper than most of the rest of the games on the platform.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
51,327 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 599,916 achievements online between them (44,828 different achievements).

Geralt of Rivia swept the board, expectedly. How are the achievements in this game? I'd assume they're like most RPGs and are mostly time-consuming, but I wanna know from you guys. When I do pick the game up (probably during the slow summer months), how much of a gamerscore boost is it?

Top Retail Achievements Won

Despite the most arcade completions coming via Fez, Trials Evolution swept this list. You'll notice all of the really high ratio achievements are absent, however. For those of you who have started this game, what do you think is the toughest achievement in the game?

Top Arcade Achievements Won

People must have loved petting their virtual pets on the bus, at work and in bed, because Kinectimals took a lot of this list. How does the game compare to the Kinect version?

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

I'm not sure how shooter took the top spot here with little representation in the high-ranking games of the other stats. Can anyone explain this? My guess would be shooter just wins by default on a slow week. It's cool to see platformer so high thanks to Fez and Trials Evo as well.
