TA Gaming Stats - April 2012

By Mark Delaney, 6 years ago
There was a fair share of exciting titles to come out on all formats this past month but as you'll see, plenty of older titles took up some spots as well.

This report is for the period April 1st to April 30th, 2012.

Games Started
74,101 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 189,327 games between them (1,795 different games).

Astoundingly, Mass Effect 3 held on to the lead for the second straight month. This time it was much more narrow, however. In May, there's no way it finishes first with Max Payne 3 and the new Ghost Recon both due out in a few weeks.

Top Retail Games Started

No surprises here. The top three games were very highly anticipated for a long while, and they all finished well above the rest of the pack, even over the Kinect Fun Labs. Trials Evolution has actually now surpassed over 500,000 downloads in just the first three weeks of availability -- a new XBLA record.

Top Arcade Games Started

Wordament proved to be a big hit, despite releasing just last week, it claimed the top spot for WP7 downloads for the month.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
20,452 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 45,270 games between them (1,512 different games).

Due to the pure volume of people starting the game still, ME3 took the top spot on completions again. Other noteworthy games include the just-released Prototype 2 and a lot of games from last year, including L.A. Noire from last May.

Top Retail Games Completed

One of the easiest completions available on the marketplace, The Walking Dead, was completed by nearly everyone who started it. Unlike many other easy achievement list games however, this one is really fun and worth playing.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Here's an example of the opposite of the last category: a game that has been slammed by most gamers for being a lazy use of a good series' name, but it was still bought in droves for the easy gamerscore.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
110,917 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 3,466,221 achievements online between them (55,233 different achievements).

This is just absurd. How is ME3 still taking the entire list? Let me hear your predictions for this May. Which game will lead the retail list, Max Payne 3 or Ghost Recon: Future Soldier? Surely, it'll be one of the two, yes?

Top Retail Achievements Won

This list represents a lot of what's right about XBLA. Innovative, imaginative games that push the boundaries of the arcade format. Any one of these would be MSP well spent.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Despite lots of Wordament achievements here, it didn't make the previous list for completions. What's the achievement(s) holding you guys up?

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Shooter claims the top spot again, which normally happens when there is no singular dominant genre for a given month. People just love shooting things. It's the most common mechanic in games, besides maybe the double-jump or health packs.
