TA Gaming Stats - April 30th to May 6th 2012

By Dog of Thunder, 6 years ago
Between shaking off the rust from my graduate school induced sabbatical, catching up with friends from having to take said sabbatical and writing this article, you'll have to excuse the stats being posted a bit late.

N0T PENNYS B0AT did a great job filling in for me, despite the numerous references to LOST. I promise that I will not make any references to canceled television shows with a cult following for the rest of this article.

Stats, transform and roll out!

This report is for the period April 30th to May 6th 2012.

Games Started
19,165 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 29,446 games between them (1,562 different games).

Sniper Elite V2 takes the top spot by default. While I enjoyed the demo, let's be honest, this is the follow up to a PS2 title most people never knew existed. Great time to get released as we are entering a week with NO new releases in most regions.

Prototype 2 (Xbox 360) isn't quite a hit, but not quite a failure either. The follow-up to a surprise hit doesn't get to benefit from the same "Wow, I didn't think this would be so much fun!" buzz as the original. Case in point: Crackdown 2.

The last game I'll mention is The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. If you take both versions and put them together you get a game that is going to break 10k total gamers next week. Honestly, that is pretty good for most RPGs these days.

Holy stats Batman!

The Walking Dead (Xbox 360) is really popular. I have to wonder how many of you that started this have read any of the graphic novels? We have all of them at my library which says something as to their quality. Well worth your time to hunt them down and spend an afternoon getting really depressed.

Speaking of depression, Fable Heroes.

Trials Evolution is going to end up with over 50k gamers. That is just a given. Awesomenauts (Xbox 360) deserves some more love according to our very own DaveKinetic. Sadly, even in their own review, Awesomenauts is overlooked by a debate about "Ninja" versus "Hero".

Cowabunga, stats!

The best part of Wordament (WP)? It was developed by a company called You vs. the Internet. I think we'll see this little word game have another week on top next week as well. Fruit Ninja (WP) has been on top of this chart many, many times. In fact, so many times, that I doubt it has much room left to grow.

Speaking of depressing, Pac-Man Kart Rally (WP). Only 87 total gamers have played Pac-Man's latest "adventure" and it currently has a TA Community Rating of 2.4. In the words of immortal TV Critic Jay Sherman, "It stinks!"

Games Completed
8,058 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 11,031 games between them (1,100 different games).

I was shocked when one of my friends finished Prototype 2 in just a few days. I was less shocked when soon after, I saw it getting finished left and right. Is this one of the easiest sandbox games available?

Props to Europe for finishing off The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (EU) when the other version doesn't even chart. Then again, NCIS is the top rated show in the US, so you can tell exactly what everyone on my side of the Atlantic was playing last week.

No stats for you!

Okay, since you asked nicely, here's some more.

The Walking Dead: Episode 1 was of course, the top completion across all of the categories. Far more exciting is the 228 masochists that finished Trials Evolution and the 200 really smart people that finished Fez. I'm sure no one used any sort of guide for any of those games.

Nin²-Jump, the rare Cave title that is not a shmup, ranks on this chart thanks to a recent sale. Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram also benefited from a sale.....right? I'm sure that if I'm wrong, someone will politely correct me in the comments.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Toy Soldiers: Boot Camp (WP) REALLY took advantage of the surprisingly strong Toy Soldiers brand name and tarnished it with a name people seem to hate. Again, going off of my friend feed and the less then stellar 2.4 TA Community Rating.

I am shocked that Sudoku (WP) is still placing on this chart. Looking into it, only 33% of gamers have finished it, so we could a full year seeing this one!

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
47,742 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 607,710 achievements online between them (43,839 different achievements).

What'cha talking about, stats?

Raise your hands if you thought a follow-up to a lost PS2 classic solely focused on sniping in World War Two was going to sweep the achievement chart this week.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Don't raise your hand for this one, we all saw it coming. Spoiler warning for next week: Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition sweeps the chart.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

I am appalled that "frenemies" has now appeared in a TA news article. Thankfully Mozilla Firefox still does not recognize that as a real word.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

Two genres of note in this chart, Adventure and Music & Rhythm. Adventure, because The Walking Dead: Episode 1 is only 100 GS and therefore unable to really give the genre a boost. Music & Rhythm because the current TA Community event is breathing new life into a long neglected genre.
