TA Community Interview - A King 84

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

*cue the horns*

With the Imperial forces of boredom smash and shattered, a new candidate has emerged from the smoldering rubble of Red Shirts and Stormtroopers. This candidate, A New Hope if you will, is here to lead us to a new land… a land full of hard-hitting questions, psychologically taxing queries, and extraneous hyperlinks. This new hope is A KING 84 and he’s the subject of this week’s edition of The Gamish Inquisition.

obj - Let’s kick things off with the tried and true question: What’s the story behind your gamertag? Is it an homage to royalty combined with a love for the World Champion, “Bless You Boys”, ’84 Detroit Tigers’ team?

AK84 - I would like to say I’m a King and #84 = Jay Novacek…. Unfortunately I have the worst, boring name out here and I’m not afraid to say it. It was one of those quick and easy choices that I had made early on. I was more excited to get on Xbox LIVE and play instead of giving my now gamertag some in depth thought! My name is Andrew King and 84 is my birth year. I apologize in advance!

obj –While I respect the simplicity of “Initial-Last Name-Birth year”, if the benevolent video game gods at Microsoft were ever to ever grant you a free change of gamertag, would you take it and what would you change it to?

AK84 - Refusing to pay for a change, I would gladly change my tag in this case. Decisions!! Decisions!! Honestly I would have to sit down and think of something awesome! I wouldn’t mind keeping “KING” in with it. I have seen plenty around the gaming community! Most everything has been taken already! I’m always down for suggestions.

obj - Where is home for you and, if I were to visit, what kinds of awesome things would you regale me with? Please bear in mind that I have eclectic tastes which range from the finer things in life (wine, women, & song) to the basest, most –sophomoric joys (beer, pizza, & baseball).

AK84 - I live in a suburb of Portland Oregon. I would gladly show you around! A lovely walkabout in downtown Portland (especially at night) is always great! We have plenty of bars and are notorious for our overabundance of strip clubs. The famous Rose Garden where the Trailblazers like to not win! Basketball is our only major sport. Can head up to Seattle for other events if you would like some football or baseball! We do have the Portland Winter Hawks if you like hockey. Always have the Portland Lumberjax lacrosse or Thunderbolts semi pro football teams (I have tried out for them/Schedule conflict kept me from joining). Food wise we have pretty much anything you need. I will take you to Pok Pok just because of the name!

obj - What pays the bills in the King household and does your job come with any sweet perks like “bring your hobbit to work day”, a live mascot, and/or a solid 401k match?

AK84 - 401k indeed! Let’s just start off by saying that I do Marine Upholstery. I work for a company by the name of Bentley’s (not that Bentley’s) Mfg. It’s a small family owned business and it has plenty of perks! If you are currently watching season 8 of the Deadliest Catch than you will see my work. I upholstered both Scott Campbell Jr. (Seabrooke) and Elliot Neese’s (Ramblin’Rose) Captain’s Chairs! No mascot other than myself as a hobbit!

obj – Let’s take a quick look at some of your work!

obj - How’s the home life? Is there a Queen 84, Prince 84, Princess 84, royal pet, or court jester that you care for and, if so, how do they feel about gaming?

AK84 - Home life is not so perky hahaha. Two roommates and some of those things we call pets. I have an out of control pug that doesn’t mind me playing anything…. As long as she gets a treat! Sweepea always has her tongue out and hogs the bed!

obj - You are about to be shipped off to a deserted, tropical island for one year. Your basic needs of food, water, and shelter will be provided by the island. You’re allowed to take five “comfort” items. What do you take?

AK84 - Well I have both Asthma and Diabetes so I would probably need my medication and a sexy nurse (too much?)! Wouldn’t have guessed that right?? I would prefer my pillow and blanket please. I suppose my dog could make the trip. I really wouldn’t need anything other than that. I would be on an island therefore I have some exploring to do! Tree forts and coconuts here I come.

obj - Let’s start the fires on the grilling with a picture of your gaming setup and a quick rundown of its features.

External image

AK84 - Setup one is in the living room. I didn’t setup the star wars xbox because I’m lazy! Not everything is shown fyi. Figured the guitars and extras weren’t important! This is what I call the Kinect station! Games are next to the 58” Plasma and below is the MK fight stick and a small portion of my movies.

And now my main gaming area! Wall of games to the left! Elite xbox next to my 32” junker flat screen and the almighty TA laptop!

obj - What is your favorite gaming memory?

AK84 - Winning my first Halo team Tournament! The original Halo and my group of friends! 5 man teams and a major showdown! We blazed through most of the competition until the finals! Our team Vs. GameCrazy went to the last kill, literally.

obj - What was the first game you ever fell in love with and why?

AK84 - Too many games! I would say officially the first Halo honestly… the mark for all first person shooters! I spent 3+ years just playing that game when it came out. Only game that has had that effect on me and my friends as well. Just a fantastic Multiplayer (with hub/non local) experience all the way around! And the Campaign was fantastic as well. I loved this game so much that I was first in line for the midnight release of Halo 2. My Halo streak ended on 3.

obj - What is your console history and, aside from the 360 of course, what is your favorite console?

AK84 - I have pretty much played and owned all the main consoles in my history of gaming. Family owned an Atari, and then moved on from each generation/console. I have fond memories of all of them. NES was a great experience. My cousin and I were caught by grandma at 3a.m. playing Double Dragon!! OOPS. As for my favorite……thinking…… lets go with N64 and that damned GoldenEye! I’m a sucker for shooters it seems.

obj - What is your favorite part about being a member of the TrueAchievements community and, on the flip side, what is one thing you’d do to improve the site?

AK84 - This site has been nothing but great! For every one bad community member, there is about 100 fantastic members to wash it away. I have met a ton of great people and gamers! Always room for improvement and it seems that TrueAchievements continually improves! I support the site via Pro Account and any negatives that I have thought of in the past have been sorted out, or are in the process!

obj - You seem to be quite the Game Room connoisseur. It’s the highest scoring game on your card. What drew you to the game and how did you nail such a high ratio?

AK84 - This is a love/hate relationship. With my history comes the need to go back and replay some old school nostalgic greatness. Unfortunately Game room was one of the biggest wastes of what-could-have-beens in XBLA history. They failed miserably in the design, setup, games, and support (went under) to say the least. Obviously that didn’t detour me and I spent the massive amounts of money and time to finish this up! I would say I played all my favorites for the major part of the completion and bought the easy stuff later on to finish it up. I don’t regret it in any form or fashion.

obj - You’ve completed over 100 games, which is an impressive feat in and of itself. Of those games, which one was the most satisfying to close out and why?

AK84 - 100 complete and eventually it will go up a few hundred once I officially dive into what I have started! Plus the easy completions make it look a bit fancier than it truly is. Definitely #2 on the list!!!!!!!!! Oh how I despise you http://www.trueachievements.com/NHL-09-xbox-360.htm. The online and offline combination was an absolute nightmare! I am proud to say that it’s done and over, but that was one hell of a grind. Which in turn makes it my best completion in my opinion so far!

obj - What is your favorite type of game and why?

AK84 - Shooters are probably the go to. I love puzzler and card games as well. Shooters have a ridiculous following which makes for more games to be made in the genre. Out of all of the games I have played and continue to play…. http://www.trueachievements.com/Magic-The-Gathering-xbo....htm would take the cake. And I can’t wait for the next installment! Anytime I have spare time and don’t want to work towards anything, magic goes up! I enjoy both versions. It’s mindless fun against the AI and it keeps me personally entertained for no direct reason. When you enjoy something, you usually don’t need a reason to be doing it.

obj – I’m kind of the same way with the http://www.trueachievements.com/Mass-Effect-3-xbox-360.htm multiplayer. It’s just got me hooked.

Speaking of Mass Effect, let’s imagine that you’re Commander Shepard and have been tasked with assembling an elite unit of four video game characters to defend humanity from an oncoming threat. Which four characters do you put on your squad and why?

AK84 - Now you have done it! Marvel's Avengers are usually the go to for me. I’m going to switch it up just a little bit since you said four! They all have their standalone video games and movies!!!

External image

That’s right! Captain America, Thor, Wolverine, and obviously the team needs a HULK!!!!! No explanation needed! HULK SMASH!!!!!

obj – On the flip side of the last question, which four characters would you doom to a violent, gory, hellacious death via Reapers?

AK84 - Well I’m going to go my own route on this one and give you some Marvel villains! I used http://www.trueachievements.com/Marvel-Ult-Alliance-2-x....htm for size reference! Forgot with the heroes.

External image

Mr. Sinister – Juggernaut – Omega Red – And the All-powerful Apocalypse (they need to make an X-men trilogy with him or Sentinels). Yes you may judge me, I don’t mind at all!

obj – Let’s imagine that you could do a series cross-over between games. Which two games would you like to see cross over into each other’s worlds?

AK84 - hahahah Would a Marvel/DC mix be asking too much? http://www.trueachievements.com/Batman-Arkham-City-xbox....htm mixed with Sentinels. WALL-E can do the cleanup. I would like to see http://www.trueachievements.com/The-Darkness-xbox-360.htm run with a Prototype (Xbox 360)! That would make a fun co-op experience!

obj – And now, Monarch of the Mid-Eighties, are you ready for the Mjolnir-powered shock of The Lightning Round?

Ak84 - Let’s Thor it up! Shocker? Flash?

Meeting Stan Lee was good enough – he is the gaming world muahahahaha

obj - Any final thoughts, shout-outs or soap-box statements?

AK84 - I would like to give a shout out to all my fellow gamers – Canadabug, B Diddy620, Jack0fAllGames and everyone on my list who has helped me out recently or at any point! My GTASC team – you know who you are! I would like to thank anyone and everyone that took the time to read this, whether you enjoyed it or not. TRUEACHIEVEMENTS and the crew! THANK YOU

A big thanks goes out to A King 84 for giving his time to submit to The Inquisition!

Many of you have no doubt noticed that The Gamish Inquisition has been on a bit of a hiatus. Numerous factors were involved in this suspension of service: me saving the universe, getting the girl, and delighting in hearing the gnashing of my enemies’ teeth were at the top of the list, but second on that was that the well of excellent candidates has gone a bit dry. So we are once again in search of interviewees!

With that in mind, if you’d like to featured in The Gamish Inquisition, please read these helpful Tips & Suggestions and send a message to me, osubluejacket, saying why you should be featured!
