Resident Evil 5 DLC Announced [Updated 19/11/09]

Recently, Capcom ran a poll on their website to determine the fate of the Alternative Edition of Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360), whether it's release should be on disc or as downloadable content. One month and nearly 2,500 votes later, the results were evidently in favour of the DLC option.

Arriving Spring 2010, the new RE5 content will include a new mini co-op campaign entitled 'Lost in Nightmares' starring Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. Originally seen as a flashback cutscene in RE5, the campaign will see the two original Resident Evil protagonists attempting to track down and question Umbrella Corp CEO Ozwell Spencer after discovering the location of his European castle hideout, only to find that they have to face Wesker once again.

No Sheva? cry

Details of the rest of the content are still being kept under wraps so expect more reveals from Capcom in the coming months between now and its release. What they have said however is that the content will be more of a return to the earlier Resident Evil horror-style gameplay, drawing thematically and stylistically from the original game's Spencer Estate setting.

The release date is still yet to be confirmed, but expect it on the Xbox Live Marketplace sometime this Spring, so don't sell your Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360) discs just yet!

UPDATE - November 19th:
Capcom revealed more details about this DLC today, including the all important release dates. Turns out the mission detailed above is one of two, and there will also be new costumes and an entirely new mode, entitled 'Mercenaries Reunion', featuring 8 new playable characters and weapon load outs. This mode is a "new refresh of Mercenaries Mode," and will "provide players additional challenges as they aim to shoot down as many enemies as they can within a limited time."

Also announced - in a move seemingly disregarding the original poll - was the upcoming release of Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition, which is effectively just the original game and a download code for all the new content, for a slightly reduced price of $49.99 USD.

The first episode (Lost in Nightmares) and Costume Pack 1 will be released on February 17th, with the as-yet-untitled Episode 2 and its associated Costume Pack 2 coming March 3rd. Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360): Gold Edition will follow on March 9th in America, and March 12th in Europe.
