343 Industries is just piling on the details today! As if the cover art and Limited Edition details
weren't enough, they have now given us more insight on the multiplayer modes in their upcoming game, Halo 4
The multiplayer mode as a whole has been titled 'Infinity Multiplayer' because it is supposed to tie-in with the campaign. The multiplayer matches you play are actually taking place on board the UNSC Infinity, a space ship on a top-secret mission that will run into Master Chief at some point during the campaign. These matches are simulated training exercises that the new SPARTAN-IV's will be using to prepare themselves for the new Halo
multiplayer experience, titled 'Spartan Ops'.
Spartan Ops has been described by 343 as "an episodic adventure that blends immersive storytelling, high-quality cinematics, and action-packed gameplay to deliver an unprecedented serialized experience." This is where the multiplayer-campaign tie-in part really comes in. Spartan Ops can be played alone or with some friends, and are essentially standalone missions that flesh out the story of the crew aboard the UNSC Infinity, with a new one coming in every week. The best part of all that is that it's all at no extra charge. Gamers will be getting these weekly missions absolutely free. Whether they will be free DLC or integrated seamlessly into the game remains to be seen, but free is always good regardless. There is, however, an unfortunate downside to all of that, as Spartan Ops will be replacing the popular Firefight mode in Halo 4
Multiplayer matches themselves are called 'War Games', and as stated above, are portrayed as training simulations. They'll still be the classic multiplayer matches we've all come to know and love, but with a little bit of a story to it. New game modes will be introduced, as well as a perk system. Some armor abilities will be returning, but not all of them, and a new loadout system will be put in. There will also be a new player progression system, and an armor customization system that is "gameplay enhancing".
As an avid Halo
fan myself, I have put plenty of time into the multiplayer of the past games, and am incredibly excited for this one. It's a long wait, but get ready to slap on your armor, Spartans. Halo 4
is due out November 6th, 2012 for everyone around the world.
