The just over 10-years-old developer, Pandemic, will be closing its doors today. As part of EA's 1,500 staff reduction, approximately 200 people who had a home at the smaller studio will be out of a job. A lucky hand full will retain their employment and be reallocated to EA's Montreal Studio. Though many of the brands Pandemic were known for will survive under the leadership of Playa Vista's GM Sean Decker, the loss is still felt by those who have come to rely on the Pandemic team to put out quality games and create innovative new IPs.
Over the last 10 years, Pandemic gave us great games such as, Star Wars: Battlefield 1 & 2, Mercenaries, Full Spectrum Warrior, and my personal favorite, Destroy All Humans. While The Saboteur is still in development, awaiting a possible Holiday release, it will be finished by the good people at Playa Vista.
A spokesperson for EA, Holly Rockwood, told Joystiq.com that Pandemic founders Josh Resnick, Andrew Goldman, Greg Borrud would be leaving the company amongst the 200 others.
Good luck to you all, we hope to see you making game for us very soon indeed.
