Spike TV has opened the polls for this years Video Game Awards (VGA) contenders. So, if you want to get your two cents in, head on over to http://www.spike.com/event/vga2009/
and cast your votes. The results of which will air live December 12th, 2009 at 8:00pm, ET/PT.
For the most part the categories make a lot of sense. They should have included a slot for Strategy (RTS)
and the only one that confounds me is Best Voice
. Why have a Best Voice
category when you've got two others for Best Performance by Female and Male
? Is there a difference?
No surprises with the nominees. Well, save for http://www.trueachievements.com/game.aspx?gameid=2099
as Best RPG
. Awesome game, but, that's a stretch. Shooter, yes! RPG, meh. The two potential big winners are Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves
, with a total of 8 nominations, and hot on it's heals with 7 nominations is http://www.trueachievements.com/game.aspx?gameid=2038
. Both share game of the year nods. The other notables are http://www.trueachievements.com/game.aspx?gameid=2100
with a respectable 6 nominations each.
In their official press release Spike TV stated:
“Nominees for Spike TV's 2009 Video Game Awards were determined by the VGA Advisory Council, made up of a group of the most well-respected experts in the industry of leading game media outlets such as GameTrailers.com, Game Informer, USA Today, Wired, Penny Arcade, GameSpot and IGN. Games released between December 2, 2008 and November 23, 2009 were eligible for nomination.”
Yet, looking at the nominee list, you may notice that none of them have been released any later than August and a whopping 40% of them merely in the past week. In an effort to explain this Spike has said this to be a "barren year
" for the industry.
What are your thoughts on this years VGA list? Could there have been more variety or is this the cream of the crop for 2009?
