It's that time of year where everybody and their mother comes out with a "Best of" list, so it comes as no surprise that Metacritic would weigh in on the topic of video games.
Just published, a few days ago, is their First Annual Game Platform Power Rankings
revealing the top 10 reviewed games of 2009. The rankings also compare how well each console's games stacked up against the others.
The results are what one would expect, for the most part, with the Xbox 360 titles receiving the most positively reviewed games, but surprisingly the PS3 takes top bill and best overall game quality of the year. With three PS3 exclusive titles in the top 10 and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
getting highest rated game of the year, Sony has dethroned Microsoft and the premiere game platform. Interestingly Forza Motorsport 3
is the only exclusive 360 title in the top 10 and Braid
being the only non-sequel in that list. The Nintendo Wii had a lacklustre year having released 362 games in 2009 (nearly 1 a day) but only garnering a 28% favourable rating.
