Yesterday (10th Feb 2009) EA Sports announced a new game type for FIFA 09, 'Ultimate Team Mode' will allow gamers to piece together their dream teams and compete against one another online.
FIFA 09 Ultimate Team consists of gamers collecting 30 types of bronze, silver and gold trading cards. Choose from players, staff, contracts, formations, and tactics then organise them into your Ultimate Team. Carefully trade your cards to get the chemistry and tactics correct and become the best. Also deal special gameplay cards at key moments to gain advantages.
FIFA 09 Ultimate Team will be available from March 19, 2009. EA are offering a teaser pack that consists of starter deck of cards and a five game free trial. A price has not yet been confirmed, but if it is as good as it sounds this DLC will definitely be worth paying for, especially if they throw in some extra achievements.
I personally can't wait for this, as long as it doesn't cost too much. It is sounding like the perfect blend of football manager and classic FIFA gameplay, plus the additional fun of a card trading game. EA could be onto a winner here. If Konami aren’t careful, PES could be in the shadows for a long time to come.
