Laika Believes To Be Released In Three Episodes

By Mark Delaney, 7 years ago
A few months back, we covered the announcement of Laika Believes, a nonlinear platformer that tells the story of Soviets, dystopia, and a talking dog? The premise sounds strange, but the ideas behind the gameplay sound ambitious.

Because of that, Minicore Studios has announced that the title will actually be split up into three separate, serialized episodes to be released over XBLA, starting in spring of 2013. Here's why, straight from the horse's dog's mouth:
We will be able to focus on the massive, nonlinear levels, choice-rich skill trees, and game mechanics we have been committed to from the beginning without getting overwhelmed or bogged down by the sheer scale of this project.

This will give us a better opportunity to ease players into the narrative with more natural pacing, allowing for a sense of discovery with no rush. There are natural break points in Laika’s story that fit perfectly into an episodic release - players will get to experience the pins-and-needles anticipation that comes with any serial drama.

We can get you the game sooner! Our goal is to have the first episode released by spring of 2013, with the additional episodes launching within the following year.
Additionally, the game is expected to be playable at PAX Prime, if any of you TA'ers are attending. Look for more news on this unique title throughout the next year or so.

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the The Sun at Night achievements.
