Assassin's Creed Shadows delay will reportedly lead to changes to Yasuke Last week, Ubisoft delayed Assassin's Creed Shadows, and reports suggest this decision is due to issues with historical accuracy and the need for more polish.Tom West Published 01 Oct 2024 FollowtopicsAssassin's CreedUbisoftRumourXbox Series X|SStealthTom West Fans looking forward to exploring feudal Japan for the Assassin's Creed Shadows achievements now need to wait until 2025, as Ubisoft delayed the upcoming game last week to give the team a little more time to polish the experience. Now, a new report suggests historical accuracy issues are part of the reason for Assassin's Creed Shadows' delay.Assassin's Creed Shadows devs have reportedly pushed for a delay for "some time"In an announcement from Ubisoft last week, Assassin's Creed Shadows was delayed to February 14, 2025, with Ubisoft saying the team needs "more time to polish and refine the experience, pushing further some of our key features." Speculation online has suggested that Ubisoft could be removing Yasuke, one of Shadows' two protagonists, but a report from Insider Gaming claims that Yaskue will be staying in the game.Apparently, Ubisoft is looking to address some of the "historical and cultural concerns" many players, and the Japanese community, have raised since the game's reveal. As such, Yasuke's portrayal in the game and some of his story could be altered, with parts of the wider world, such as architectural details, possibly addressed too. Insider Gaming reports that historical experts were brought on too late for a game of Shadows' size, and miscommunication between teams and a rush to meet deadlines all led to issues falling through the cracks. As for the need for polish, there have reportedly been a number of changes to gameplay mechanics that could take time to add in.According to several Insider Gaming sources, the Assassin's Creed Shadows team has apparently been calling for a delay for "some time," and despite their calls having been heard at other studios, Ubisoft's top brass appears to have ignored them. In a follow-up post from Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson on X, the delay will reportedly affect the Assassin's Creed launch pipeline, although all reported Assassin's Creed games are apparently still in development, including the Black Flag remake. Another report suggests that Star Wars Outlaws' poor sales is one reason for Assassin's Creed Shadows' delay.
