Hand-drawn 2D platformer Nine Sols joins Xbox Game Pass today

  • Developer: Red Candle Games
  • Xbox Game Pass Tiers: Ultimate and PC
  • Genre: Action-platformer
Blending Eastern mythology, philosophy, and cyberpunk themes, Red Candle Games has created a "Taopunk" world to explore in Nine Sols. Playing as Yi, you must traverse the forsaken world of New Kunlun via 2D platforming in search of its nine rulers, the Sols. It's an action-packed adventure too, equipping you with skills to charge, deflect, and strike your enemies in combat inspired by games like Sekiro and Hollow Knight.

Red Candle Games describes Nine Sols as a game that "blends the philosophical depth of Eastern traditions, the richness of mythology, and the futuristic edge of cyberpunk." On the combat side, it's a "deflection-heavy 2D action game" that parrying fans will feel right at home playing.

If you've been exploring the unforgiving world of Stalker 2 — which we loved in our Stalker 2 review — Nine Sols could be a wonderful change of pace to take the edge off. Sure, it's a fast-paced action-platformer, but that art style is beautiful, and worlds apart from The Zone's gritty atmosphere.
