Sea of Thieves celebrates another anniversary this month. Even if you've finished up with the Sea of Thieves achievements, there's plenty to do in March in what continues to be one of the best Game Pass games out there.

Sea of Thieves ready to celebrate seventh anniversary

  • March marks seven years since the launch of Rare's popular pirate game
  • There will be a celebration event, community weekend, and more to celebrate
  • Rare is also planning new dynamic Xbox Series X|S backgrounds
First up is the Seventh Anniversary Celebration Event from March 14 to March 22. "During this month’s Event, all pirates are invited to tackle a series of Community Goals inspired by memorable moments in Sea of Thieves’ past. By working together to hit cumulative targets, you can unlock a range of rewards commemorating some of those unforgettable encounters and discoveries," Rare says.

March 14 will be a busy day, since Rare is also planning new Sea of Thieves dynamic backgrounds for Xbox Series X|S which "aim to capture the essence of Sea of Thieves, from its breathtaking scenery to moments of seafaring peril." On the same day, the Sea of Thieves soundtrack will get a "unique rendition" of Happy Birthday.

Sea of Thieves to get new dynamic Xbox backgrounds and more

March 17 will see new merch added in the Xbox Gear Shop, while from March 17 to March 24 there will be an Anniversary Sale in the Pirate Emporium.

On March 20, the Sea of Thieves: 2025 Editions will be available to purchase with Deluxe and Premium Editions available, and "maybe others." On the same day, a Sea of Thieves background will be available in Microsoft Solitaire. A community weekend will go live from March 22 to March 24, with Twitch Drops available in the same period.

Then, on March 27, there will be the monthly free content update, "bringing the next wave of Season 15 features to the seas. Hunters will soon have a new tool at their disposal with the introduction of the hunting spear for taking down big prey, even as the world around them fills with lively newcomers including lizards skittering across the sands and jellyfish drifting through the waves."

March 27 will also see a new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Perk available with the time-limited Seventh Serving Emote. Finally, on March 31, there will be a Microsoft Rewards Sea of Thieves Sweepstakes for a Sea of Thieves-themed Xbox controller.
