A new Ubisoft game called 'Alterra' rumor suggests the company is working on a voxel-based social sim in the style of Animal Crossing. With many players invested in Stardew Valley, Coral Island, Castaway Paradise, and more, we already have a good few Xbox games like Animal Crossing on the platform that Ubisoft will be competing with!

Ubisoft reportedly blending Animal Crossing and Minecraft for a new social sim

As reported by Insider Gaming, Alterra is apparently a voxel-based social sim inspired by Nintendo's Animal Crossing, which gives us an island home filled with Funko Pop-style NPCs called Matterlings. Ubisoft is reportedly using Minecraft-style building mechanics to give us the tools to craft our perfect little island home.
Alongside our island home, Alterra will reportedly see us traveling to other worlds consisting of various biomes to collect new materials for the things we want to build in our home world. Worlds will reportedly be thematic, with its Matterling inhabitants — which are described to have Funko-style large heads and inspired by fictional creatures and real-world animals — enemies, and materials all themed around a particular biome.

According to the report, Ubisoft plans to add new Matterlings to the game over its lifecycle, and multiple variations of each species will have differing clothing and the like. We'll apparently have the ability to interact with other players too, although it's unclear how multiplayer will work. Perhaps we'll be able to explore each other's home worlds?

The game was reportedly born from another canceled voxel-based project and has been in development for the last 18 months at Ubisoft Montreal. Former Gotham Knights creative director Patrick Redding is said to be in the same role for Alterra, while 24-year Ubisoft veteran Fabien Lhéraud is the lead producer.

In other Ubisoft news, new details have emerged about some of the exciting stealth features in Assassin's Creed Shadows. As for these Alterra rumors, would you be interested in a social sim from Ubisoft? Let us know in the comments, folks!
