Vote now for May 2021's TA Playlist game

By The TA Playlist Team,
As you continue to explore Possum Springs in the TA Playlist game for April, Night In The Woods, we have to pull you away in order to choose the TA Playlist game for May.

Earlier this month, we marked the completion of the Great TrueAchievements Score Challenge (GTASC) for 2020, and we once again decided to collaborate with the winners of the Team and Individual GTASC to choose the picks for this month.

We were initially unsure of what to do as the new rules allowed four people to a team and then an individual, so we were close to adding a fifth game in just for this month. However, this issue was solved when Infamous won both the Individual challenge and the team challenge, taking us back to four winners again,

So, we’ve asked the winners of the team challenge: JimbotUK, Infamous, inToX Shredz, and Icefiretn as part of the team, "Is This Team Jim's Infamous Ballad of Intoxicated Shredded Robots & Icefire? Is This Just Fantasy?" and the individual challenge also Infamous, to give us a selection of three to four games each and the Playlist Team has chosen the best-matched games from their nominations.

Without further ado, here are their selections:

Undertale

Undertale was nominated by JimbotUK, and they said, "Perfect indie game. Very clever writing that makes for a great and unique experience. Good timing for the TA playlist with it finally getting achievements on Game Pass."

Undertale Achievements

Undertale is a 2D RPG developed by Toby Fox and was released on console earlier this year.

You control a child who has fallen into the Underground: a large, secluded region under the surface of the Earth, separated by a magic barrier. On your journey back to the surface, you meet various monsters that you may or may not have to engage. However, you’ll also be met with plenty of self-aware dialogue and humour that absolutely make the game.

Undertale has a community rating of 3.78/5.00 on TA, having been started by 24,203 site users and completed by 11% of that number (2,659 people to be exact!). It was added to Xbox Game Pass in March 2021 and takes between 4-5 hours to complete.

Dead Cells

Dead Cells was nominated by inToX Shredz.

Dead Cells is a self-described roguevania, meaning it’s a roguelite-Metroidvania hybrid game. It’s developed by Motion Twin and originally released in 2018. It also previously featured in a TA Playlist in Jan 2020, but it was a runner up to Afterparty

Taking place on a sprawling, ever-changing island, you are the Prisoner, a failed alchemical experiment trying to figure out what's happening all around you and discover the secret of the seemingly cursed island.

Dead Cells is currently sitting at a rating of 4.26/5.00, having been started by just under 70,000 of you. A mere 374 (equating to 1%) of you have completed the game so far, however.
It is available in Xbox Game Pass, and according to our site estimates, you can beat the game in 25-30 hours. If Dead Cells wins, you can play either the Win 10 or Xbox version — popping an achievement in either game will count.

Monster Sanctuary

Monster Sanctuary was nominated by Infamous, and they said, "Monster Sanctuary is a fun little monster hunting Metroidvania with challenging turn-based combat, skill trees with tons of options for customizing builds, optional PVP and alternative challenge modes, had a lot of fun with this game, and I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in, well, any of that."

Monster Sanctuary Achievements

Monster Sanctuary is a Platforming Metroidvania game developed by Moi Rai Games and was released in December 2020.

Described as a "monster hunting meets Metroidvania" game, Monster Sanctuary combines a few different genres to create an interesting game. You join a Monster Keeper in a land where you live in harmony with the monsters that you raise. However, the peace is disturbed by the arrival of some unusually powerful monsters, and it’s up to you to unravel the mystery, all while hatching and raising your own monsters for specific uses.

Monster Sanctuary currently holds an average score of 4.05 out of 5.00 on TA. It’s been started by over 14,000 TA users and has been completed by a 3% of that number (around 390). They’ve suggested that it’ll take 40-50 hours for you to get the completion. If Monster Sanctuary wins, you can play either the Win 10 or Xbox version — popping an achievement in either game will count.

Lonely Mountains: Downhill

Lonely Mountains: Downhill was nominated by Icefiretn, and they said, "This is a fun time trial type game that starts off simple and throws in some tricky paths later in the game. It's fun finding the shortcuts and cutting down on your best times."

lonely mountains downhill

The final choice for next month is Lonely Mountains: Downhill. It is a sports/cycling game developed by Megagon Industries and released in October 2019.

Lonely Mountains is a beautiful downhill cycling game. Really the game is just you and your bike taking a thrilling ride down an unspoiled mountain landscape. As you make your way down the mountain, you explore a number of different terrains, including thick forests, narrow trails and wild rivers; just try not to crash!

Lonely Mountains: Downhill currently has a rating of 3.48 out of 5.00 here on TA. Of the just over 52,000 of you that have started this game, only 235 people have so far completed it (coming out at a mighty 0%). Excluding DLC packs, this game should take you 25-30 hours to complete, with the DLC adding another 4-5 hours of content. Lonely Mountains is also available on Xbox Games Pass.

One of these four will be the TA Playlist game for May, and they're all relying on your vote to get that spot. Finally, a massive congratulations to the winners of the 2020 GTASC!

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
